The pie chart reports main causes of worldwide agricultural land degradation and a table showing main reasons by regions in 1990s.
The main reason worldwide for agricultural land becoming less productive is over-grazing with 35 %, followed by 30 % for deforestation. Third top cause is over cultivation with 28 %.
The most percent of degraded land is in Europe, where 9.8p of land is degraded by deforestation and 7.7 % by over-cultivation. Both of these numbers being the highest of the three regions. Oceania reports a total of 13 % degraded land. It's leading cause is over-grazing with 11.3 % in the region and also the highest value in all regions mentioned. North American region reports only five percent of land degraded in 1990s. Over-cultivation causes degradation of 3.3 % of agricultural land in North America, compared to 0p in Oceania. 1.5 % of land is devalued by over-grazing, which is the lowest value in the cause. Combined, over-grazing degrades most of the land in the three regions, which agrees with the worldwide numbers.
