Fervent lovers of movies may disagree that only movies which can teach us about real life are worthwhile. Even the super movie stars might immediately be put in a dilemma since some of them are pursuing involvement in diverse kinds of movies. And the screenwriters, having written the scenario involving fevered imagination, have to worry about their fame theoretically. Actually, the statement that only realistic movies are worthwhile is too implausible.
Documentaries are supposed to be the most realistic movie genre since they depict the historical events or the real aspects of nature. The movie Nanook of the North shoot by Robert. J. Flaherty in 1922, milestone of the development of documentaries, records the original life of the Nanooks and was praised as the truest and most human story of the great white snows. Robert. J. Flaherty captured the struggles of the Inuk Nanook together with his family and acquaints us with another world. This significant movie fulfilled an essential purpose of the documentary, which is education.
Admittedly, realistic movies teach us lessons, yet some unrealistic movies like the Harry Potter series are globally popular since they are not worthless at all. The magic world was completely conceived by J.K. Rowling but outstanding courage and warm friendships of the characters were profoundly contagious. Undoubtedly, the movie teaches us moral lessons in thought-provoking ways.
Furthermore, the reasons people watch movies are complicated and yet promote the development of the movie industry. Comedies act as companions offering us opportunities to escape from reality just for a couple of hours especially for those people who are extremely busy and under high pressure. Additionally, some movies show us different fresh ways to understand humanity, the world or the relationships among people. Audiences enjoy diverse kinds of movies according to their own tastes, but all of us tend to find our own screen companions no matter whether they are realistic or not.
The definition of a worthwhile movie varies from person to person. That is why I do not agree with the opinion that only those movies from which we can learn about real life are worth seeing.
