MY Essay:
Can the problems confronted by governments be divided into ones of today and ones of future? From my part, I think this dichotomy is unreasonable, and I certainly dissent from the claim.
Before I say why, I believe it is of crucial importance to make it clear that what the definition of present problems or future problems is. For some scholars, the present problems may be the immediate ones that concern our living conditions such as environmental pollution, impoverishment, insufficient educational sources, and weapon or war threat, so some argue that governments should focus on solving these problems. However, within the problems thought to be present ones, which can be solved within single generation? Most of them have been constant social issues since they emerged. We have reacted to environmental problems such as global warming, ozone depletion and destruction of global rainforests, also to organized violence, such as nuclear weapons, and to the problems of famine and penury. But are these problems only considered to be solved for our single generation? In fact, although it is unconsciously, human have put the problems together into consideration.
It is ridiculous to divide the social problems into present ones and future ones that should be solved as a whole. Whether we solve them or not, or whether they are well disentangled, they will indubitable impact on the future. The problems well solved today will make it easy for descendants to face their problems and provide them a good environment to live and work. Making Adolescent receive education are all for the literacy and intellect of the whole future society; Preventing wars and conflicts are making ways for offspring to enjoy in a peaceful earth. Meanwhile, the problems ignored today may deteriorate tomorrow. The result of dividing the two and focusing on either is dangerous. Since Industrial Revolution, people have made tremendous achievement in capital accumulations and wealth of society, but I still do not believe it is successful, because so many problems left by the ancestors have come to us even future humankind. The so-called problems of future, in my opinion, are just the problems of today. In other words, few problems of future, as we can anticipate, are very original, but they are derivative from nowadays.
Moreover, any social issue contains the aspects of past and future, and government should try to solve them as a whole. It is strongly demanded that any action or policy be deliberate and discreet to promise the ignorance of neither present nor future ones. Only when the consideration includes both the present conditions and the future influence they and their solutions will have, can the solutions be reasonable and unexceptionable. New era provide opportunities and challenges, and the era of cooperation between generations has come. Our significant plans should strategically integrate generations of governments to solve our common problems.
In the final analysis, the best way to consider the problems of today and of future is to put them together, and the thorny social issues should be tackled over several generations of governments.
