Ielts : working children; Good or bad?

Topic: In many countries children are engaged in some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it as a valuable work experience, important for learning and taking responsibility.

Depending on what age they are, it can be debated whether children should be encouraged to work or not. I believe that there must be restrictions on working children created by lawmakers depending on their age.

Admitting that working to have expereince is very important for children in the long term, it must be restricted by codes considering their age. In most countries in the world children, under the age of 11, are not allowed to do any kind of work. Between the ages of 11 and 15, they are allowed to do some kind of paid work which their mental and physical health will not be affected in the negative way. Eventually, between the ages of 15 and 18 they are allowed to do most kind of work.

Work experience and responsibility should be built on a well education in order to be successful in life. To me, parents should not allow their children to work before the age of 18. It would admittledly be difficult for children to focus on education, while they are being distracted by work. However, as an exception, they might be allowed to do work on particular fields which can assist them in their education life. As an example, children who want to specialize on a profession could be allowed to work somewhere can provide this experience to them before they attend to university as long as their education life in previous stages will not be affected in the negative way.

On the other hand, as a result of enonomic reasons, in several countries which are struggling with poverty children see it as an obligation to be engaged in some kind of paid work, no matter what age they are and what kind of work it is. This is a kind of responsibility which they should take instead of having a valuable experience to assit them in their education life. In these countries, there is a large number of children under the age of 15 doing hard work which might affect their mental and physical health.

In conclusion, as I consider the economics facts that put responsiblity on children to be engaged in some kind of paid work, I believe that this issue should be considered in the long term for their mental and physical health instead of the experience they will have and it should be restricted by the lawmakers.

I am taking the ielts exam tomorrow too.Do you feel a bit nervous? How long have you been preparing for this? I have spent for a month, maybe more than that and I actually could not cram anything in the last few days.

I've written an essay about this topic since a year ago. In my essay, I was for the latter view. It seems too long, doesn't it? Tomorrow, I will try to write just a little over 250 words as required. All the best!

Nowadays, there are different types of jobs for children to be involved in such as gardening, cleaning or delivering leaflets in many countries. Some people believe that this could bring about plenty of benefits for the development of children as well as their personalities; others claim that paid work might be harmful for children. From my point of view, I believe that it would be good for children to take part in some kind of paid work for several reasons.

The first and most important point is that children who work are more independent than those who do not work. As can be seen, children, if working, can earn money to help pay for their education or at least not receive an allowance from their parents. Moreover, having a job means that they have to take responsibility for the tasks given by their boss. Thus, unlike students who only study, not needing to allocate their time, it is necessary for working ones to manage their time, finding how to balance their work, studies, homework and relaxation. As a result, working at an early age makes it easier for children to stand on their feet and start a job in the future.

Secondly, not only are working children more independent, but they are also more active. This results from their facing many difficulties and situations during their time of working and the accumulation of valuable experience. Thanks to this, children understand what their strengths and weaknesses are, also they learn how hard money is to earn, how hard it is to reach a goal, and the best way to solve a problem. All these are expected to be applied successfully in their later studying, working and life.

Last, but not least, unlike students who have confined themselves to school and family relationships, working students have a bigger circle of friends. These children have opportunities to meet people from all walks of life, making friends and creating connections. This contributes to their betterment in communication.

All things considered, paid work is beneficial to children in various aspects; we, however, must not forget some its drawbacks, such as the fact that children may have health problems, suffer child abuse and lose time with their family and friends. Parents who allow their children to do paid work, therefore, should keep an eye on what they are doing to ensure that everything goes well with them.

Yeah I am feeling a bit nervous too. I have been preparing for about 1 month. Honestly, I haven't practised enough to become capable of writing a proper academic essay, since I realized I am struggling with writing task most. It is probably because I didn't trust in myself in that task. I found this web site a few days ago and have been posting essays since then.

I just read your essay and you are abviously capable to achieve a good mark from writing task, unlike me. I have a serious problem to have a logic in my essays even though I am trying to consider the comments made on my previous essays. Your essay seems more logical and academic than mine. There is no reason for you to be nervous :)

I've seen real improvement from both of you! I'm not going to critque these essays, because you need to get your sleep, rather than worrying over past essays, before taking the test.

You could learn a lot by studying trangquynh's essay. He has the right formula. Three specific reasons, each treated in its own paragraph, which expands on that reason with more specific details. Your own essay shows improvement from previous ones, but your effort to deal with the opposing side gets in the way a bit.
