Statement of Purpose
Excellence in any sphere of life can be achieved through determination and perseverance. These are the driving forces that initiate a goal directed activity and bring fruitful results. Yet lack of in-depth knowledge of the subject leaves the best of conceptual skills in complete education. It is in the context that I would like to pursue my higher studies which not only supplements the knowledge that I possess but also provides strong foundation to my future career.
My desire to research and insatiable thirst for knowledge and my ambition to contribute substantially to the field of computer engineering, have installed in my zeal to apply for .XXXX. Graduate Program. Needless to mention .XXXXX. is a pioneer university for quality technical education. The departmental website seems to me that the MS program in Computer Engineering will provide in depth theoretical and practical knowledge in computer engineering especially in computer architecture, computer systems and networks, machine learning, and software engineering. As the field of Information Technology is moving towards this concept, I would like to be a part of this development. Having stated the purpose of my interest in master's program I proceed to introduce myself.
I was introduced to the Mathematics and the Computer Sciences at my high school where I realized my interest in this area. The desire to study computer science and engineering prompted me to take the entrance examination for admission to the Khulna University (KU), Khulna, Bangladesh which is renowned for its superior courses and good scholastic environment. I was ranked in the top 5% of nearly 4,000 students.
As I have been well groomed to flourish myself in this field, I was always sincere throughout my undergraduate education. During my undergraduate studies, courses such as Microprocessor, Computer Architecture and Digital Logic Design interested me the most. I was astonished by the potential of Intel 8086 microprocessor, more so by the manner in which, its faster and more powerful cousins revolutionized the way computer work in a decade. As a part of the B.Sc project/thesis requirement, I completed thesis in the field of Neuro-Fuzzy Hybrid Model for controlling Agent behavior. I graduated with eighth position in the class and with a publication (on my thesis) in a conference proceeding.
I attended several national and international programming contests (ACM ICPC) as a contestant. We had to develop software in every semester as Software Development Project course requirement. The most recognizable work in my undergraduate level was to develop a "Mini Operating System" using the C and Windows API language.
After completing bachelor degree I joined at BGC Trust University Bangladesh as a lecturer in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering. This occupation involved teaching of undergraduate theory and practical courses and supervising theses of a group of students. During five year of my teaching profession I worked for two other universities (International Islamic University Chittagong and Southeast University) as a lecturer in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering where I realized my thirst for the acquaintance for research on Embedded System and Hybrid model. Therefore, I started seeking master's program in this field around the world. Meanwhile I got the opportunity to work with MRS (Materials Research Society), Singapore as a research member. It has given me the confidence to pursue MS degree and also kindled my desire to do research.
Over the past 4 years, I have developed an interest in the areas of Computer Architecture, Embedded and Hybrid System. Another research work on "Neuro-Fuzzy Hybrid Controller model" published in a Journal "Solid State Phenomena Vol: 111". My two works on "Intelligent System" were published in a national journal (SEUJSE). I have also publications on "Hybrid Model and Intelligent System" in different conference proceedings (ICAAI'04, ICMAT'04, ICISTM' 07, ICEG'10, WeST'10). Beside those I developed a survey based work on "Discovering model from event based data" as a joint seed of work which published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS), Springer-Verlag. I believe my research experience in this area would be very helpful for this Masters program. During my academic carrier in different universities, I came across several professors and scientists. Most of them work in different areas of engineering sector. Interactions with them have made me realize the importance and the scope of computer engineering. My discussions with them convinced me that specializing in this sector will suit me very well.
Outside of my academic arena, I was also active in cultural and sports life. I was the founder member and director of the Association of Mathematics (KU). I was a regular member of the editorial body of publications brought out by the department in several occasions.
I wish to earn an MS degree in Computer Engineering. I intend to follow this up with a Ph.D., and later, a career in research and teaching. I am determined to become a successful person to benefit society through the use of technology. I have spoken to my professors, seniors and colleagues about my choice of University. Therefore, I feel that the MS program at the .XXXX. School of Engineering at the University of .XXXX. has the right mix of technical as well as managerial techniques which will drive me towards my goal. Moreover, the facilities, scholarship, and traditions of the University .XXXX., combined with the caliber of the student's body, make me confident that I will be stimulated throughout the course of my studies.
I bring along a strong grasp of fundamentals in Computer Science and Engineering, an aptitude for research and team work, a zest for challenges and an enthusiastic desire to learn all I can. I am confident I have the necessary motivation for research work and academic background to pursue successful graduate study in this renowned university. I strongly feel I can match the high standards of this university and contribute to the research endeavors it offers. An opportunity to study at The University .XXXX. will surely motivate me to do my best and excel my career.
