Question: What steps have you taken to learn about the Berkeley MBA program, and what factors have influenced your decision to apply?
When I made the decision to do an MBA, the first place that came to my mind is Berkeley. A history enthusiast and believer in individual rights, I was inspired by the FSM in Berkeley and its significance to civil rights movement. To walk in the 'Sproul plaza' and trace the steps of 'Mario Savio' would be a dream come true for me.
However, I recognize that every school has its own characteristics. I started my research on Haas philosophies and culture by browsing Haas website and blogs, following tweets, and attending information sessions. I was fascinated to find that the Haas's philosophy of 'producing innovative leader with heart' closely aligns my own, as I believe that a business cannot be sustained through a single minded focus on profit and by lack of innovation. Moreover, I am impressed by the importance that Haas has placed over its collaborative culture - exemplified by the student's non-disclosure of credits agreement. I am very excited to join the Haas's quest to make a difference in the world by participating in IBD and helping fellow Berkeley students in brainstorming ideas for GSVC.
As a culmination of my research I visited the Haas campus in October. Speaking to the current students and getting lost among the concrete temples of education, I am awestruck by the students who went out of their way to help me and also by their unwavering commitment to Haas's core values. These characteristics made Haas my first choice among business schools.
