Fond of Numbers since I was a young kid and passion for Algorithms and problem solving at High School made me concentrate less on other subjects which lead me to a score that was considered not good enough to make it into top universities with scholarships in my country. My Destination was Anna University from where I graduated in the field of Computer Science. This is where my ideas flooded and my career started to flourish. As a first year student I spend time understanding the curriculum and making strong plans to set my vision and goal to catch up on what I missed in my school days. Making my parents feel proud of me was on my top priority as I never did even once in my schooling. I started to be a freelance programmer as early as end of second year. It was 'I Quest 2012'- A Contest to portray Inventions and New Ideas, which gave me a much required start. I invented a gadget 'Action Reminder' which was a smart band that would help aged people to keep track on their daily medicines and help them in taking the right tablets at the right time. I ended up being the Runners up of the event. This was the first time my mother saw me getting an award on a stage and she was a proud mother that day.
In my third year, I matured. It was the 'I Quest 2013', this time I never knew what was coming. Even before the event started, my new idea which aimed at accessing cloud to store contacts and other files from a basic phone without needing any explicit internet was patented by the college. I went on to publish a paper after working on the project. This project fetched me many awards including my favourite 'M N Srinivasan Memorial Award' for the Best Innovation of the Year. Noticing my appetite for coding and algorithms, I was called in at a local firm to develop an android application. The Application turned out to be a hit in my college. Application named 'Athena' aims at helping students to keep track of their daily attendance, exams, study materials and more. I along with my two other friends caught the attention of leading newspapers in my country. Articles about the application flashed in the newspapers. I can't tell you how happy I was to see the look on my parent's face in the early morning when they saw the newspapers with my face on it. My top priority that I had when I joined college was accomplished.
With my Engineering almost coming to an end, it was time to give proposals for my engineering project. Having worked on quite a number of projects, I figured out that, the common challenge which I faced in all the projects which was to handle the huge amount of data effectively. I wanted to take up a project which had complexity in handling data. With a professor having a PhD from IIT, Madras, one of the top institutions in the country on board as my guide, I started working on a project which would be helpful for the society that aims at detecting Abandoned Objects which may be harmful at public places. There are various systems existing based on this concept but we researched the drawbacks of the existing systems. One of which is the time taken for detection. With Huge amount of data which needed to be processed by the system, we decided to implement the system in Hadoop that minimized the time taken for detection. We came up with our own algorithm. I have also presented this at an international conference and the same appeared in the journal. I also interned at a start-up for about 6 months working on java based projects.
After graduating, I started to work as Oracle SOA Consultant at Larson and Toubro Infotech where I had the opportunity to showcase my skills and technical knowledge which I learned back in college. I worked on projects which had complex Data integration, transformation and manipulation. When I graduated, I decided to focus on Analytics. Basics of Business are something which I knew I was naturally good at. But I had to limit myself when it came to formal and in depth knowledge in the field of Analytics.
The Curriculum of Masters of Science in Analytics is something which is tailor made for me, my interests, and my goal. I set my eyes on this course since I graduated. I just wanted to have some professional work experience in order to peek into the real corporate world. This exactly proves to be the reason why I am applying two years later after I graduated. I can learn to have the right mix of Mathematics, Computer Science and Business Knowledge which would pave way for me to become an efficient Analyst in future who can solve complex and challenging problems which exists in the society. Working on numerous projects almost continuously since my second year and appetite for learning new concepts and technologies resulted in comparatively average scores in my tests. But I would like to assure you that every lecture which I attended in my college, I made sure, I understood the concept that was taught and applied it to the real world scenario every time I learnt. Lastly, I am not writing the content in this essay without the help and sacrifice of my parents and friends to whom I am really grateful for what I am now in my life.
