The quest for excellence is the motivation to study abroad. Overseas study presents me with the opportunity to be exposed to world class, practical learning experiences, and facilities which conform to acceptable industry standards. As a matter of fact, apart from learning the theories and principles in the various courses, I want to be able to carry out experiments to see for myself and better appreciate the lessons learnt from the classroom.

Moreover, most technological breakthroughs and inventions are usually from abroad and more often than none, students from these foreign Universities contribute actively to these advancements. Therefore, they (the students) are abreast with recent technological developments. Over the years, I have demonstrated capacity and a unique ability to thrive in the midst of challenges. This is because I see potentials for learning in every situation I find myself. I believe this attitude would be of help particularly when real-life work challenges are presented and discussed as teams in my class.

Throughout my undergraduate days, I have found the subject of Reservoir Engineering particularly fascinating. It is a discipline that I consider the heart of the Petroleum Engineering profession. As a matter of fact, I have been greatly influenced by the experience I obtained in the Shell Petroleum Development Company, Warri as a Youth Corper, in the Reservoir Engineering Discipline. There I was able to work with Professionals and Industry software like Saphir to carry out checks on Static Gradient Surveys done on some intervals and Schlumberger Oilfield Manager (OFM) where I was able to generate historical production performance plots and decline curve analysis for various fields and intervals that had problems with wax and were shut-in. Furthermore, I was able to able build initial Material Balance models with gathered reservoir data using the IPM MBAL software.

As a Petroleum Engineering graduate, I have a desire to practice the profession and the scholarship would go a long way in making me a thorough-bred professional, able to compete with the industry's best and equip me with the necessary skills to add value to the pool of Nigerian professionals and contribute positively to the local content initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria in the Oil and Gas sector of the economy.

You're very welcome!

I think it could definitely be used as the foundation for other essays; with proper tailoring, this is a very adaptable piece.

Keep up the hard work!

I cannot thank you enough. I have been really encouraged by your comments.

Can you give me some pointers on how the tailoring can be done? Any areas I can remove, modify or add to?

Thank you again, keep up the good work.

God bless you.

Well, it should match the question in the prompt. For instance, this piece (as it is) might not work for a prompt that asks about the influence of a specific event on you, but it might work with one that wants you to discuss what you plan to do with the degree you have obtained.

You can improve the first sentence. I did not find errors, but I think the first sentence has got to go. Consider replacing it with a powerful sentence about your high-minded aspirations for applying your expertise (which you will acquire through this program). Perhaps your first sentence can capture your true motivation and interest -- and the rest of the essay can explain it.

Ok thank you.

I have made the correction, and included it with the whole body of the text.

"Engineers are team-leaders who know how to make the best use of their colleagues different abilities, which means they are both resourceful and practical, capable of taking risks and facing up to their responsibilities" Jean-Louis Beffa.

The greatest motivation for me in applying for the ME3 program is the opportunity it presents me to acquire the professional skills required to pilot complex engineering projects in the industry and solve environmental and energy issues through an integrated approach, taking into account human, social and economic challenges. In addition, the experience of being exposed to new cultures and to adapt different value systems and methodologies really appeals to me.

Over the years, I have demonstrated capacity and a unique ability to thrive in the midst of challenges. This is because I see potentials for learning in every situation I find myself. I believe this attitude would be of help particularly when real-life work challenges are presented and discussed. Until recently, oil prices reached a record high of about $147.00 on the back of rising demand for energy, especially from developing economies. Oil exploration and production has become more aggressive and more into the deep water regions offshore thereby making issues relating to pollution, its prevention and control more important. The pressure these activities exert on the environment and its impact on human life are now critical factors in carrying out these projects.

As a graduate of Petroleum Engineering, my undergraduate studies have exposed me to Oil Pollution and Control in addition to Petroleum Engineering concepts. My work experience in some oil companies has given me first hand experience and understanding of the importance of host communities and health, safety and environment issues. These experiences range from drilling, wireline operations and reservoir engineering. Exploration and Production projects are not just about how many barrels of oil that can be withdrawn from the reservoirs, but now include how the environment can be restored to as much as possible to its natural state and the people living normal lives.

I look forward to acquiring all the relevant skills necessary to providing global solutions and strategies to the issues of generating energy with minimal environmental impact and managing its demands through the ME3 Masters course.
