Undergraduate / 'Living in Nigeria' -Contributions might you bring to help create a diverse community [2]

i would love if you can go over this essay for me and give me your comments and corrections.

here is the topic of the essay "What contributions might you bring as an individual to help create a widely diverse educational community in your chosen academic program"

thanks

Living in Nigeria which is in west Africa for 17 years and coming to college in the states has giving me two different views of life, both from the perspective of a Ghanaian and an American. Most attributes, the way of living and cultures of both countries are different even though they have a similar type of government which is the democratic government. For instance, in Ghana it rude for a kid to greet a grown up with their left hand, but it is seen as a normal behavior in the United States. I believe interacting with people from both countries has put me ahead of most people in the diverse community in Virginia tech, because not many people in this school have lived in different countries. During my stay in Ghana, I went to other countries like china, Cote D'ivoire, South Africa, Ghana, Germany, Italy, London and Togo. Visiting these countries and having interaction with the citizens of those countries and learning some of their cultures has giving me a better understanding of how people in different parts of the world work and think. I am currently embarking on a journey of becoming an electrical engineer and thus working on a B.S in electrical engineering. Most of the classes I am enrolled in or will enroll in involve group work with either 4 or more other students. During our projects, I hope to exchange the experiences and problem solving techniques I have gained from schooling in Ghana and visiting other countries with other students in the groups to help solve problems. In this way, other students will also learn different ways and methods of solving problems and might also find out more about different countries through our interactions.

Undergraduate / 'advantages and benefits of being an electrical engineer' how to impact the community [2]

i would greatly appreciate if you could go over this essay and give me your thoughts, comments and corrections. thanks

this is the topic of the essay "describe how you intend to utilize your degree/course of study to positively impact your field, and ultimately, the greater community."

As a kid, one of my greatest urge was to help make this world a better place. Over the years this has been my motivation of wanting to go to school and further my education. When I was in middle school, I always thought I was going to be an environmentalist, but us the years passed by and I went to high school. I realized that my interest was not in the environment, but more into electronics. I then decided to take the path of becoming an electrical engineer. I am currently working on bachelors in electrical engineering with the intention of obtaining a PhD in this field also. I also plan on doing research with other professors in the electrical engineering field and also with environmentalist in order to understand the concepts of both electrical engineering and the environment better. Doing this, I would be able to understand the concepts of both fields better. Doing this would help me figure ways in which I can help the environment through electrical engineering. I intend to use electrical engineering in different fields like the environment, technology and even health. In the environment aspect, I want to help in the invention of electrical powered automobiles that will cause less harm to the environment, are cheaper and energy efficient, have longer battery life and also emit less carbon dioxide. This would help improve the state of the air we breathe and also the environment as a whole. Also, in technology I hope to partner with other scientists from different engineering fields to create better, cheaper and more reliable electronics. For example, I can partner with scientists involved in nanotechnology and use nanotechnology in the creation of different types of technology.

Also, I intend to use electrical engineering to help get the youth, particularly girls more involved in this field by visiting elementary and middle schools from time to time and interacting with the kids. During our interactions, I will educate them on the various advantages and benefits of being an electrical engineer. I would also engage them in simple hands on activities like creating simple circuits, flash lights and it's like in order to give them a sense of how electrical engineering is like. In doing this, some of the youth might be interests in becoming electrical engineers in the future and might also help in the inventions of better and more reliable electronics for the community. Finally, I intend on partnering with other engineers to help solve multi-dimensional problems the world is currently facing. This would help make the world a better place.

Scholarship / Power and electronics and oil - SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY HELP [2]

can you please proof read my essay and give your critiques and comments. thanks

the topic is Describe your career interest in the oil and gas industry

As a child, one of my greatest desires was to help make this world a better place. Over the years, this has been my motivation to further my education and go to school. I have always wanted to be an electrical engineer and use it to help solve multi-dimensional world problems. When I was in middle school, I always imagined myself working as an environmentalist, but as the years passed by, I changed my career interest during high school. I realized that my interest was not in the environment, but actually in electronics. I then decided to direct my career path towards becoming an electrical engineer. I am currently working on a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with the intention of obtaining a PhD in this field. I also plan on doing research with other professors in the electrical engineering field and also with chemists in order to understand the concepts of both electrical engineering and the petroleum industry. In doing this, I would be able to understand the concepts of both fields better. Doing this would help me figure ways in which I can help the environment through electrical engineering in the petroleum industry.

Oil and gas is the world's most important and used energy resource, and since technology and the amount of oil and gas resources are increasingly becoming more in demand, it is essential that the industry continues to produce genuine and reliable resources. I hope to help with the growth of the industry by becoming a power or electronics engineer, which are branches of electrical engineering. Both power and electronics are essential in the production of gas and oil. All the systems used in the drilling, refining and management of oil and gas products need some sort of power, mostly electrical power. Also, electronics can be used for the same things. For example and electrical drill which is used in the drilling of oils require power and some sort of electronic device to function. Also, oil and gas refineries and even the pumps need power and electronics to function properly.

Scholarship / 'Describe your participation in extracurricular activities' SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY [NEW]

This is an essay for a scholarship, critiques, comments and corrections are greatly welcomed. Thanks for your help

Describe your participation in extracurricular activities. What have you learned from your experience(s)?
(Examples may include: community service, volunteer work, employment, school clubs, sports, family, church, etc.)

Since enrolling on college, I have joined a number of sports, school and church clubs, but the extracurricular activity that has had the most impact on me was volunteering to be a helper for the disabled senior citizens that participate in the Special Olympics. I had the opportunity to work with the intellectual disability agency together with the Special Olympics. I volunteered to help them as a community service requirement for a class. The agency was made up of both elders and youth who are intellectually disabled and participate in the Special Olympics. Within the agency were different clubs which included the walking club, aquatics club, track and field's club, basketball club and even bowling and dancing clubs. I volunteered to work with the citizens in the walking, bowling and track and field clubs. In the walking club we walked laps around the field with a senior citizens, I was assigned to walk with a senior citizen called rose. Rose totally changed my perspectives and mindset about disabled people. Before volunteering, I thought it was going to be a hard task trying to motivate and help the citizens do what they were required to do, but rose who was a forty year old woman was extremely self-motivated and competitive. Before we walked laps, she would make me write down the number of laps she would walk that day and how fast she would complete them. She strived hard to beat her goals every time and also set tougher goals for her herself and would get mad if she did not beat her set time. One thing I learnt from rose was that, no matter how hard a situation or task might seem, it is possible to accomplish the task if you have the right mindset and motivation. Also for the track and field club I worked with a young man called Thomas. Thomas was the exact opposite of rose. He was always unmotivated and would not even walk for 50 meters. I needed patience and encouragement in order to work with him. He was a determined person, but just needed some external motivation and encouragement for him to push himself. Working with him helped my work on my patience and also leadership skills as I always had to encourage and motivate him to do what was required of him. During my volunteer period, I got the opportunity to also work in teams of five with the citizens, especially those that were enrolled in the track and field club. This also improved my team working skills as I always had to plan events and activities for the people in our group with my teammates.
