Undergraduate / I spent this past summer performing in a show at the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival ACTIVITY ESSAY [3]

Tell us more about ONE or TWO activities listed above that are most important to you.

Please explain the role you played and what you learned in the process. (Max 350 words)

The activity that's most important to me is the time I spent this past summer performing in a show at the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival. I was fortunate enough to get cast in a show called 'Tumbling After' through the Summer Studio program at Manitoba Theatre for Young People, where we spent four months rehearsing the play and getting involved in every aspect of the production, including costuming and lighting design. During the last two weeks of July we performed the show in the Fringe Festival which was truly an experience like no other. Since we were performers, we were able to see any Fringe show we wanted for free, so the cast and I took full advantage of that opportunity and over the course of two weeks we ended up seeing over twenty Fringe shows. Being able to experience the Fringe Festival in its entirety was such an amazing experience to have because it exposed me to many different kinds of theatre and art, and taught me a lot about what a career in the arts could look like.

Getting involved with this show was something that was initially a hard decision for me to make, I was extremely anxious over the thought of auditioning for something that I almost didn't do it at all. I'm so grateful that I worked up the courage to audition for it, because I know I'll look back on that whole experience as one of the highlights of my life thus far. Between performing in my own show and seeing many others, I learned so much about the art of theatre and the importance it plays in my life. The opportunity I had with the Fringe Festival made me fall in love with theatre even more than I already was, and made me realize that it's something I want to do for the rest of my life. . I've learned so many valuable things both about theatre and myself through being involved with the Winnipeg Fringe that I don't know where I would be today without that amazing opportunity.

Thanks for taking the time to read! I'd love to hear some feedback about ways I could make this stronger. Overall I feel good about it since it really is the thing that I'm most proud of, but if there's anything I can do to make it even better than I'd love to hear it! Thanks so much!

Undergraduate / NYU Personal essay - Duty Six - an event in your life and how it changed you or someone close to you [4]

Hi there!
I really liked reading about the story of what happened in this essay, but overall it feels more like reading a story from a book than reading a personalized essay. I would suggest changing it so it sounds less like narration, and more like something that you've experienced first hand, which you have. Reading this made me believe that you were speaking about a scenario you weren't a part of, which isn't true.

Other than that, I think that this is a very good story and I enjoyed reading it. I hope I helped!

Best of luck!

Undergraduate / What would you design, having money for your idea? [4]

This sounds really good, and the project that you talked about is clearly something that's important to you, which is great. I would say that something good to improve on here would to dive a little deeper into the relationship you have with your cousin and why it's so important for you to create something that could help improve his life.

Overall, it looks great but I would say that adding a little bit of a personal feel to it will make it stand out.
Best of luck!

Undergraduate / The most important to me is the relationship with my friends and family - UBC Personal Profile [6]

What is important to you? And why?

The thing that's most important to me is the relationship that I have with my friends and family. When I was younger I had trouble making friends, but no matter how lonely I was I knew that I could always come home to my supportive family. My family has always been supportive of my dreams, they've always driven me to rehearsals, taken me to see shows, and sat in the front row during my performances. As I got older, I started making friends and although some of them have come and gone throughout the years, my best friends and I always managed to stay close. We ended up going to different schools, and over time our lives started to go down different paths due to our individual interests, but no matter what we always made our friendship a priority.

From always going to each others sporting events and performances, to late nights watching movies or helping each other with math homework, the friendship that we've had is something that's extremely important to me. Growing up with such amazing friends and family has taught me the importance of letting the people you care about most know how important they are to you. The relationships I have with my friends and family are the most important thing in my life because they've helped shape me into who I am today, taught me how important it is to follow your passions, and most importantly, how to be someone that others can count on.

Thanks for reading! I would really love some feedback on any and all aspects of this essay. I feel pretty good about how I answered it, as I feel like it represents me and my values well, but there's definitely things I could improve. Thank you so much!

Undergraduate / How can I improve my response to "Reasons for choosing your program and Waterloo" in the AIF [3]

Hi there!
I think this is really well written, the only thing I feel that could be improved on would be your introduction. The introduction feels a little informal and fast pace, so I would suggest making it a little longer and more formal sounding. Other than that, the rest of it reads nicely and it highlights your passion for engineering really well.

Best of luck!

Undergraduate / My friends and family would describe me as someone who is very supportive and hardworking. UBC essay [2]

Tell us about who you are

UBC Personal Profile Prompt - Tell us about who you are. How would your family, friends, and/or members of your community describe you? If possible, please include something about yourself that you are most proud of and why.

I believe that my friends and family would describe me as someone who is very supportive and hardworking. I have been known to work hard in order to achieve things that I want and in any situation I'm in I make sure to give one hundred percent. My family would say that I never give up when things get difficult and always try to turn a bad situation into a positive. I'm someone who is very loyal and supportive to the people in my life and would do anything for a friend or family member in need.

Something that I'm most proud of about myself is my drive. When I was younger I was very shy and would sometimes not do things out of fear of failure, but as I grow up I've done things that have significantly pushed myself out of my comfort zone and a lot of these things have changed my life. A huge example of this would be theatre. Ever since I was young I've loved theatre but was always too scared to try it out for myself, but within the past few years especially I've managed to overcome these fears and have ended up being in numerous productions which have ended up being some of my favourite memories ever. The memories and friendships I've made will always stick with me and I'm so fortunate to have been able to experience the magic of theatre in such a supportive environment.

I'm really looking for any and all criticism, I know this answer isn't even close to the best I can do and I want to figure out some ways to make it as strong as possible. Thanks so much for the help!
