Undergraduate / "My World" and "Physics, Favorite Departement", MIT [NEW]

Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why?
Physics has been my favorite subject since the elementary school, and I'd like to be a "Quantum Physicist". I have decided the MIT physics department because it's worthwhile; the high ranking, low student-to-faculty ratio and programs such as SPS have made the department unique.

I always review my lessons by watching Prof. Walter Lewin classes at the "MIT Open Course Ware". I really like his dynamic and engaging lecture style. I have also heard about equipped laboratories and great research opportunities available in the department. I believe all of these are valuable points about MIT physics program.

What attribute of your personality are you most proud of?
Now that I'm writing this essay, it's 2 A.M. and my mother has told me: "you must sleep by 30 minutes!" I have corrected the students' exam papers, updated my weblog, written the math homework, and I feel tired now. These are not the signs of carelessness, but show my busy schedule.

I'm always proud of my hardworking and responsible character. I think I should conclude the task which I'm responsible for; a thorough and comprehensive result is better than some incomplete conclusions. My friends, teachers and family have always trusted me due to these attributes and asked me to help them in their tasks.

I believe that the world is a self-service restaurant; everything is ready and you just need to stand up from your seat and then fill the plate with everything you'd like. But the problem is that, sometimes, we are as lazy as we cannot even stand up! I think I'd be able to choose my favorite things in the world if I'm practical, so I've tried not to be lazy and irresponsible in my life. I also attempt to use the time in the best way, and this the reason of my busy schedule.

My parents believe that my success is due to the "Perfectionism". I want everything to be done in the most perfect way. I learned this from the world's biggest mathematician, Carl Friedrich Gauss, whose motto was "Pauca sed matura"-Few, but ripe-.

Undergraduate / Math Circle Program - common app essay [9]

I think you've suddenly jumped into the 4th paragraph. you should cut some of the negative points and clarify the positive ones; I would think your essay is about weaknesses of Math Circle. But totally, your writing is fluent and interesting.

****please read my summer essay!thanks

Undergraduate / My Disney Childhood in 180 words - Wake Forest [9]

It's interesting and amazing!

Where the first Harry Potter book became known, just in time to receive my letter to Hogwarts and the most important thing on my mind was being sorted into Gryffindor and staying as far away from Slytherin as possible.

I think you can change it and cut some parts.

You didn't answer to "What are its strengths and weaknesses?" so well; you can mention the weaknesses too. also, you should clarify the good points better, like:

T.V. shows taught me to just be a kid.

**** please read my Princeton Supplement!

Undergraduate / "summarize one's whole life" - My philosophy teacher influenced me [4]

I really need help! Please tell me what you think about this essay:
Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.

"This year is the year of Leaves rustle, snow peace and desert freshness! Let's share this happiness." This is the first thing I heard from him in the class. He is an old tall man with white long hair, Mr. Ahmadi.

He is my philosophy teacher and our class is once each week. He doesn't believe that it's a classroom; he thinks it is the friends' circle. But I know that he is more than a friend.

He tells his own thoughts in the class and expects us to say our own ideas instead of things we have memorized from books. He usually asks instead of answering and believes that we should be like Socrates; asking a question isn't a fault while answering without knowledge is. I've learned from him that great questions we can ask are more than thorough answers we can find.

He often reviews the past philosopher's achievements or their today's baffles. "But more than these, he has taught us how to think. He said once: "philosophy is thinking of ideas." I've learned in his class, how to contemplate deeply and accurate, and I found only one way for this: you should "start" thinking.

One day, we were asked to answer: "how can we summarize one's whole life?" We had different answers, but Mr. Ahmadi didn't accept them and said: "I want a more valuable way!" He told us: "Each person will just leave one thing after his death, and we can recognize the person with it; that is his or her beliefs and opinions." Then he left the class!

Mr. Ahmadi has surely altered my lifestyle; I have understood that we are more than some usual creatures. Human is a combination of thoughts and beliefs, to have an immortal name in the human history, we need to have eternal beliefs.

Undergraduate / "I'm a girl." COMMON APP [12]

I think it's a unique start, but you have limited your world just to your father's opinions. It would be better to talk about positive things too. You can write about you city and community as well as your family positive points.

Undergraduate / Harvest time and teaching season, my summers, Princeton supplement [6]

Well, this is my essay. What do you think about it? I'll be glad to know your opinions.

Please tell us how you have spent the last two summers (or vacations between school years), including any jobs you have held, if not already detailed on the Common Application.2500

Last summer
Last summer was harvest time for me. It was time to see the result of success in different exams.
Finally, after lots of efforts, I was able to attend at the "Astronomy Summer School". A school that the most talented students from all over Iran are collected there. Ten students of this group are chosen to be members of the "Iranian Astronomy Olympiad Team". The school's goal is to provide equal educational opportunities for everyone and then decide the bests.

Last season brought me some good friends, and being with them has provided me a valuable experience. Although they were from different parts of the country, but I found them so warm and kindly .We lived in a small dormitory for a season, a season with a lot of experiences.

I had classes about physics and astronomy from morning until afternoon. Our teachers were university professors and this fact helps us to learn the science in its comprehensive and general meaning.

Being with educated friends not only creates a scientific atmosphere, but let you have hobbies like playing sports, performing theater, going to picnic, etc. I'll never forget our music group!

Finally, the school's committee chose me to be a member of the national team, and we are going to the International competition, IOAA, in Poland next summer.

Summer of 2009
That summer was my teaching season! I remember that I was teaching most of the day and I still had enough energy.
I had planned to have a physics class with junior students of my school. But when I saw their willing to have more classes with me, I decided to teach them math and astronomy too. My classes were active and students could find the solution of their questions in teamwork or as an individual.

I wanted to show them the reality of science by seeking into the nature, so we had some field trips. We traveled to different areas and tried to describe the nature by our knowledge. I used to talk about students with their counselor, so that he recognizes them better. I wasn't paid for any of these, but I was proud of myself to assist some students!

I didn't only teach; I was a student too! I went to different classes such as music, sport, English, philosophy, etc. I also traveled to far villages to have observational tours. I tried to show the villagers their great starry night through a telescope.

So after that summer, I am a teacher who plays Tar, speaks English, knows about philosophy and have a good relationship with villagers!
