Essay Question:Some businesses now say that no one can smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Some governments have banned smoking in all public places. This is a good idea but it takes away some of our freedom. Do you agree or disagree?

Smoking is harmful to the individual as well as the environment.Many organizations and the governments of most of the countries have banned smoking in work and public places in order to protect their employers and citizens.Although,many people believe that this is the best approach to save the environment some argue that it curbs the right of an individual.

On one hand,smoking banned in public places is beneficial to passive smokers who acquire diseases due to people smoking around them.For example in India,this has lead to massive reduction in smoking related diseases like tuberculosis and lung cancer.There is a saying called "Prevention is better than cure".Government of India is using it's expenditure to impose these laws and in creating awareness instead of spending on drugs to cure these diseases.In Companies,productivity has increased since most of the time is used efficiently and effectively.Air pollution has come down and the incidence of infertility for which one of the main cause is smoking has also reduced.

On the other hand,the nature of human psychology is that when we attempt to control someone,they will overdo it.Youngsters and teenagers will try to explore believing that this is their right and therefore leads to behavioral and addiction problems.In order to protect their rights,governments of nations can build secluded areas especially meant for smoking to safeguard both the environment and the human rights.This is already in vogue in many of the developed countries.

To conclude,in my opinion,smoking which is detrimental to the soceity should be banned by implementing laws and educating the public through media and newspapers.I disagree with the fact that it curbs the freedom of an individual.

Topic:News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in
newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do
we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was
reported?

Newspaper and television is an integral part of everybody's life nowadays.They are enlightening the unpleasant activities that is happening around the World in their front page and headlines.People also give more emphasis to these in their day to day life.They have adapted to accept the harmful information and move forward.People should try to give more importance to the good deeds that is occurring in their neighborhoods and in the World.Many factors influence the decision of the editor in order to come to a conclusion about what information should reach the public immediately.This has become a common debated issue these days.

First of all,sensationalism and target rating point are the two most important influencing factors that makes a television channel to telecast a program or a news.Second of all,newspaper circulation and popularity had also produced a great impact about what information to be printed in the newspapers.These factors in turn depend on the majority of the population who read newspapers and who watch television news.For example, if we see what majority of the people in office or public places are discussing these days they discuss about the bad news.I feel that overtime,people's psychology have changed and they have suited themselves to live in this kind of environment.

In this fast moving world,where anti-socialism is on the rise,people want to protect themselves from danger.Therefore,bad news should reach the public immediately for their safety.For example,a couple of months ago there was a major natural disaster followed by nuclear explosion in one of the southeast Asian countries.In this kind of situation,to ensure the safety of the public,editors should make sure they telecast and edit the correct information.Some editors have their own personal choice and tend to print and telecast the information about what they like.For example,editors might have migrated and any news which is of no social value from their region will be given priority.These are the main factors that influence an editor to make a choice of various inputs to headlines.

Although it's an individual's choice to prioritize,if we receive the good news it will produce a positive impact and the outlook about the society amongst the population might change.Insecurities and unnecessary fear could disappear.People's psychology will change in-course of time.Instead of bad news if we start to discuss about the good things in life like love,faith and hope amongst ourselves editors will attempt to change their attitude about their choice of news.

Each and every individual should make an effort to bring about this change i would say.

Personally, i think we all should take an oath that we share the good news first followed by the bad news in order to develop a peaceful harmonious society.If the owners of the newspapers and television started to believe that they play a pivotal role in the development of a nation and strict to their morality instead of thinking that they are their business ventures the World will progress towards harmony.

Hi everyone,
Thanks in advance.Am trying for 7 in all modules.Please help me with my writing samples to improve and achieve my score. Topic:Is academic education given more importance than practical knowledge these days?Should schools should start giving more importance on this?Write your views and support it.

It is common today,that Academic education is given more emphasis than the practical knowledge.Although,academic education is vital in an individual's life it is essential that he/she has the capacity to apply the knowledge gained efficiently in their day-jobs.I believe both are essential in today's environment and society.For instance,academic education is needed for a person to acquire a job initially but to excel in that job the practical aspects like time management,teamwork and interpersonal skills are required.

For example,in my school days i was the best in academics but when it came to my personal and professional life it was not of great help.The practical things which i learnt from my family and friends helped me a lot to cope in my job and personal life.It is obvious from this example that practical aspects are more important compared to academic education.Many

rich people nowadays,had not even finished their education in school.They all have started their business ventures without education and have achieved great success in their fields.These people have gained the practical skills by means of experience.

Academic education has it's own merits.If a woman in a family is academically strong in a family she can teach her children easily.The literature rate in a country will increase if people attend school.In India,Kerala is one of the states where

literature rate is high and it is one of the well developed states in our country.I think for the development and economic growth of a country education is important.

Although,practical aspects can be learnt by experience if schools start to educate the children
about these, they can face the world in a bold manner.Therefore i think schools in addition to academic education should educate the children about the practical skills for the well-being of society.
