Undergraduate / Why do you want to attend Pratt and what do you hope to accomplish from you [3]

Any advice is welcomed, thank you.

I am a passionate drawer and painter. My fondness toward visual art made me sensitive to the arts around my surroundings: advertisements, product packaging, posters, people's expressions, conversations and much more. Art has always been a part of me.

The Claude Watson Arts program of Earl Haig Secondary school opened my eyes in arts. After enrolled in its visual art program, I was introduced to contemporary conceptual art. Although our teachers acknowledge traditional art qualities such as painting and drawings, they were very concerned with ideas and theory. They taught me how to get inspirations from our lives and use it in our art works. I was encouraged to think creatively and differently, to wonder about the possibilities. After learning with such influential and innovative teachers, I decide to combine my way of thinking and ideas with my artistic skills and to use them in the society.

To be successful in any art industry, my art teacher Mr. Low once told me, you gotta have contacts.

And this is why I am attending Pratt. With its recognition, good faculty and its location, Pratt can help me success by helping me to build connections within the realm of western contemporary art.

Not only is Pratt one of the leading professional schools of art, design and architecture in the United States, but also is it the grandest art school in the nation, with the largest faculty. Many of the world's most renowned practising artists, designers, architects etcetera who have received awards for their work and are leaders in their field come to Pratt. From the excellent faculty, I will be able to make interactions and relations to the most important people in the Art world today.

As one of the most selective school of the United States, Pratt has attracted many gifted students nation wide. Students are the future. Pratt Institute will house the most influential artists of tomorrow. By being a part of the student body, I will be studying from, sharing ideas with, and being inspired by these talented people. From the excellent alumni, I will be able to make interactions and relations to the most important people in the Art world tomorrow.

Pratt is located at the centre of arts and culture of western society-Manhattan. Living and studying here, I will be aware to the each heart beat in the art world up to the minute. From the excellent location, I will be able to make interactions and relations to the newest concepts and technologies in the art world anytime.

With out a doubt, Pratt's large and excellent faculty, its brilliant pupils and its ideal setting provide me the contacts I seek in my artistic career for success. That is why I choose Pratt Today. By completing my study here at Pratt, I aspire to learn the latest technology, skills and perceptions; I aspire to meet and learn from the most talented teachers and students; I aspire to success.

Undergraduate / Getting brain dead on the Champaign essays [3]

ESSAY #1: In an essay of 300 words or less, write about how your personal or academic interests relate to your intellectual or professional goals.

I had always been a passionate drawer and painter. There is never enough time for me to do art. Art has always been a part of me and hasn't left ever since. My fondness toward visual art made me sensitive and attached to the arts around my surroundings: I enjoy watching advertisement, I can remember theme songs of movies or TV, I am attracted to product packaging and book covers. Therefore I strive to also use my own artistic ability to combine art and society together.

It is my goal to study Graphic design in School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois Champaign. By completing my studies, I can transcend my artistic qualities into society by designing product packages, posters, books, environments, spaces, websites and other Medias with a visual languages; I will be able to communicate efficiently and fluently with the language by using imagery from digital or non digital sources, typography, digital and non digital tools. To

The world is changing constantly. I hope to not only acquire the newest ideas and concepts but also develop them as well as technological and traditional skills in your school. By studying and training in the Visual Communication program, I hope to speak fluently in the language of art and bridge the between art and the society.

#2: In an essay of 300 words or less, choose one extracurricular activity, work experience or community service project from the list you provided on the application and explain why you initially chose it, why you continued with it, and how you benefited from it

One interesting extracurricular activity that I have done is Broad designing for my school. It started in elementary school when I volunteered to decorate the bulletin board for my classroom. I wanted to use my drawing skills to make our room a bit more homey and beautiful. I remember I did such a good job that my teacher made me the board decorator of our class. I would decorate bulletin boards for school events, club and funds, or any news. I continued my job after I entered high school, decorating bulletin boards for my clubs and the school. Through the admiration of my friends, I received much recognition which encouraged me in my role. I enjoyed making the school a more appealing place to be.

Through my special tasks, I have determined my career aspirations as a graphic artist. It built me a strong foundation to many design elements such as proximity, type, colour and alignment which allows me a step ahead of the others in learning graphic design.

and I have written another one:

My love for art came within my inner self. Growing up, I had always left a seat for drawing. Doesn't matter whether I am holding a crayon, a marker, a pen or a pencil, I always find the pleasure of making my imagination come alive.

To further pursue of my love of art, my mother have put me in drawing, painting lessons since a child. In that class I have learned the skills and techniques that could strengthen the qualities of my work.

When my teacher felt that I was ready, I was introduced to acrylic painting. I was fascinated with the varieties of colours I could use. I started to use colour as a way of expressing myself. I begin to see different colours that are all around my society. My teacher told me to not to be fooled by the direct colour of the object, but to analyze deeply; Due to the lighting and shadows it may not be the colour of how it actually is.

From a hobbie, art has become a dream, a career for me. I am glad to be able to use art in my job in the future.

My problem is that I have written them over and over again now I am speaking like a kindergardener. I really don't know how they are and how to improve.HELP!

Writing Samples
We require that you submit two examples of writing, each to be between 200-400 words. For the first, write about a significant person and
that has helped define you up to this point in your life.

When others slumber alone or with their love, I lay beside my mother.
From hotels to rented apartment, there were so many rooms to describe, too many to recall of the times that my mother and I had shared bed, countless mattresses, and countless dreams.

My mother always looked 10 years younger than she is supposed to be. Her smile is the perfection. Lifting the corner of her mouth, it is the smile a young girl- with optimistic and sunshine. When I flipped through our albums, the smile is everywhere. She always seemed content, satisfied and joyous.

Perhaps is the procrastination of child, I had always envied my peers who had a space of their own. How nice it would be, to be able to decorate your walls, put posters on the ceiling and shining glitters stickers on the window? I was ashamed of our home, its tightness. Why can somebody else have a grand house of 3 bedrooms when I share not just a single cell but a same bed with mom? As much as I understand the hardship of a single mother, I was embarrassed and much more disappointed.

It was the new Chinese New Year. To the western world it was just another day. In China, there would be celebrations, festivals, family gatherings and red pocket money. My mother planned out a festive dinner for the jubilees after school and works. We'll have steamed fish for abundant wealth, four ginger and beet pork balls, a boiled chicken in broth, and stir fired sprouts, four dish signifies four seasons and will bring good luck all year long. It seemed that all was too happy, so a snow storm had to visit Toronto. Wind and snow blows with their extreme strength on our special day. The roads were dead; nobody had expected such a strong hit of snow. I was lucking enough to walk home before dark. My mother, along with a city of jammed buses and cars were stuck in the road with the heavy snow. I stared at the time, she's supposed to be back by 5:30, but it is already 8:00. I dialled her number: Where are you? Are you going to be back soon? What about our dinner?

I will be home soon, just hold on. I am almost a quarter of a way through!
A quarter? That would take another hour to get here according to today's speed. I looked out in the window; the falling snows had made the city misty as if it was covered in ash. Worried about her, I could not help but blame god for this rivalry weather, turned on the TV and hoped for a miracle.

Half an hour later, some one knocked, and it was my mother. When I let her in, she was covered in snow. Her black hat and jacket were almost completely white.

I figured the bus isn't ever gonna move so I decided to walk. Let's make dinner.
But, why? Its so cold, you shouldn't have...
Today is a special day; we shouldn't skip it any other way.
Our special dinner was prepared short, yet after hours of waiting both of us were starving. We lifted our bowls and took the first bite, and then my mom picked up the biggest pork ball on my rice.

Here, happy New Year.
From that point I realized my mother's secret forte. There is an quality that made her trample in snow field just to arrive for our dinner, for her long determination and hope for life. It is the love for me that stands behind her. The belief in the better future of me strengthens her back soul and lifts her up when she was weak and lonely. My mother did not throw away her accomplishments and wealth when she brought me to this country, she traded them with a much more valuable quality- love. Love bonds are the world's best anti-depressant. It is the motivation that keeps us charged. It is better than any thing in the world.

I begin to truly appreciate our single celled space we called home. That night, I lied closer to my mother.

I know it is very wordy to the point, but I don't know what part is OK to delete, any help? please?

It is the center of contemporary design with its fast developing technology and close connection to the rest of the globe.

I had always been a passionate drawer and painter. My fondness toward visual art made me sensitive and attached to the arts around my surroundings: advertisements, product packaging, posters, people's expressions, conversations and much more. Art has always been a part of me.

Undergraduate / SAIC design statement of purpose; 'As long as there is life, there will be art' [7]

THanks, that was alot of help
I have edited this one/

I wonder how my life would be with out art. I would not be laughed at as much because then I would never stop moving when I'm brainstorming so that I can think better. I would sleep better with out burning the midnight oil to work on some sudden inspiration or trying to perfect a piece. The bark of the tree would just be brown instead of red, green and some magenta. This would be the life I could have lived. Thank God there is art.

It is my goal to study an undergraduate degree in Visual Communication at the School of art Institute of Chicago. A picture says a thousand words. This field is the bridge between art and everyday society. I believe that with my ideas and artistic skills I can open the eyes of many people and carry them on to the artistic side of the world. The reason I aim toward my education here is because School of Art Institute of Chicago possesses innovative, conceptual, and revolutionary visions as an established Art School; and the multicultural background of the established city is the perfect nest for me as an artists to get inspirations.

Art is the mirror of life. I am always tuned in to my social surroundings. I listen; I watch and pay attention to the most insignificant aspects: conversations on the bus, or on the street, people's facial expressions, their moods etc. The world is a plasmid TV with unlimited channels, and I am its addict.

I exhibit my observations of the world in my art works. From my first attempt of drawing my favourite dolly at four, I had always tried my absolute best to depict my subject with realism, and I was not bad. My pictures were admired by friends and their parents. And I considered myself a somewhat skilled artist. Perhaps it is the intention of God. In grade 10 I enrolled the Claude Watson Arts program in Earl Haig Secondary School. The program took me to a new land of art. Although we also do traditional and skill orientated works, our teacher mostly focused on conceptual art. We were assigned projects dealing with "words", "phrase", and "cube" and was introduced and encouraged to use "out of the world" media such as land, water, and even performance. My eyes have widened. I begin to portray my examination of the world using- whatever thing possible! Art could be everyday mundane objects, situations, places, emotions, or even times. My whole body exalted that Art filled with possibilities. The beauty of art took me away.

In the future, I will carry on my role as the observant and transmit creations- whether the media maybe. I will still bare the laughter when I froze again due to the heavy load of brain work. I will continue to stay up late because of a sudden inspiration or to perfect a work. The bark of the tree will remain be red, green and magenta instead of brown. As long as there is life, there will be art. So let there be art, and there will be me.

Is it beter now?

Undergraduate / SAIC design statement of purpose; 'As long as there is life, there will be art' [7]

As long as there is life, there will be art.
Through out history, art has always been a truthful spectacle of mankind. In the ancient times, cavemen drew of their daily life as hunters and gatherers. During early civilization people began to wonder about God, so art was religious. As the world swelter from wars, art languished in nihilism. Then with the sudden explosion of technology, art exalts with a new burst of light. Art has always been a mirror of life.

I always thought of myself as a somewhat decent artist. Growing up, I was always the best. Accepter into the first art school with out any former training, I felt as if I had always knew my way to portray the subject.

The dynamic nature in my art comes from my keen sense observation of the world and its nature. I listen; I watch and pay attention to the most insignificant aspects: advertisements, conversations on the bus, or on the street, people's expressions, their moods etc. I am constantly tuned in. The world is a plasmid TV with unlimited channels, and I am its addict.

The dimmed room with its white fluorescent light, it was just like yesterday. Sitting with a group of other preschoolers, I was in my, perhaps, first artistic lesson. Our instructor had demonstrated on the black board of several cows standing on a grass field. We were to copy, and put in the colour of our choice. I recall her questioned attitude when the inspector picked up my paper. While all the other children obediently copied the picture on the board, I put a sleeping cow with the other cows. Maybe I was too small to know why I did that, but I felt that a drawing of only standing cows would be rigid, unnatural, and inanimate. I felt that my drawing was alive comparing to the others.

Years have gone by and I continue to observe closely to the wonders of my surroundings and society, and exhibit by discoveries in my works. Life is such a wonderful diamond because it shines in many different prospective, through the eyes of many people, it is a million seconds in one. I shall peruse and capture each and every minimial sparkle of life, its people and its environment and magnify it to let everybody can realize that ordinance is divine.

As long as there is life, there will be art. Let there be art, and there will be me.

I don't think i have done a good job, I am not that good at english and writting, could somme body help me ? I need it very soon, like TOMORROW
