What was this glow that kept my eyes from opening when I walked into the gym? Of course, it was our posters, radiating, which we had worked on for hours for days after school. What was this smell that flowed sweetly into the nose? It was the smell of the nacho, noodles, and hotdogs that Spirit Club had prepared to sell for students during breaks.

As a new girl at school, I browsed for a club to join looking forward to meeting new students. A club that gave me wings and identity within the school was Spirit Club; my unique ideas, organizational skills, and effective money control as a treasurer contributed to the growth of the club to where it stands today. In school activities, it is the hard work of Spirit Club that prevails.

It was raining with fogs dominating the windows of the car. Brushing the fog off the window with my sleeve, I attempted to catch a sight of where the family had landed this time. Then, I saw it. The immense front door looked intimidating yet welcoming with lines of buildings going down on both sides. In midst of the busy street and gloomy rain, Boston University glowed with vibrant energy. With extra research, Boston University kept alluring me into its fascinating attractions. Growing under my dad who is a zealous doctor, he showed me how he pursued his doctor career while satisfying his compassion by holding free clinics. Provided by Boston University, The Modular Medical Integrated Curriculum will allow me to continue my goal of becoming a doctor without interruption if I am eligible.

As I stumbled upon Social Science Research class as a freshman, I immediately fell in love. How sociology provides an explanation of how human interact with his environment captives the interest of a girl who is an ardent reader of works of Rousseau, Locke, and Hobbes. With the flexible research program provided to all students with curiosity will permit my interest in research to expand and experience professional researches first hand.

With research into the life outside of school, I came upon The Daily Free Press ran by students of Boston University. As I lost myself in the news of the community and school, I felt the excitement and vibrancy of the society and body of students, and I was left at awe at the quality of writings.

The diversity of student body, flexibility of education, willingness to provide opportunities, exciting life outside of school, and my ability to see myself trying new activities at the school are all apart of reasons that brought me to writing you this essay.

Please describe a daily routine or tradition of yours that may seem ordinary to others but holds special meaning for you. Why is this practice significant to you?

Instead of soft leather seat of the car, there is only the hard metallic seat of the subway on a ride to school. Even though there were moments I imagined of time travel just to skip the subway ride, it quickly became a daily ritual that eventually wakes me up from sleep. Riding the subway taught me about Korean etiquettes better than a textbook would. I learned not to eat in subway because eating is actually seen as a disgusting practice when viewed by others. I learned not to apply lip makeup in subway because that is unwomanly according to elders. I learned not to speak in English unless I want to be observed as if I was an object at display. Taking the subway also gives me a sense of power and endless imagination. What if I got off one stop earlier than my usual? Would I find the solution to ending all hunger and corruption? Is not the choice of skipping school for a day in my hands? Snapping me back to reality is the familiar announcement kindly reminding me to go to school.

You have been selected to sing in a talent show. What song would you choose? Why?

I am a superwoman. The world and its challenges bring my knees to the floor and my head to my knees. Yet, I fight back and break all that threats my way to triumph. A song that constantly repeats itself on my mp3 not only identifies my values but also encourages me to march toward my goals. I will no longer hesitate to remind the mothers and sisters of the audience that under our everyday appearances, there is a superwoman who keeps soaring. (The song is "Superwoman" by Alicia Keyes.)
