Undergraduate / Strong commitment ,Research;U Michigan-School of Nursing/Unique qualities [2]

I was weak and prone to illness throughout my childhood. Whether it was a bad flu, severe heartburn or near-death malaria, I constantly visited the hospital. As far as I could remember, whenever I was bed-ridden from my illness, my mother seemed to always find a way to nurse me back to health. The image of her feeding me a bowl of soup seems to have always had a special place in my heart and inspired me to be someone just as caring, influential and compassionate.

With the help of University of Michigan and specifically the School of Nursing, I will be able to accomplished one thing I have always dreamed of, discover and advocate the vision, values and mission of excellent nursing profession. I am particularly interested in the school's strong commitment to advancing the practice of nursing through research. Research is very vital to our everyday decision making but especially in the medical field. It amazes me how everyday researchers are expanding our knowledge on things that are very beneficial to our lives. In the medical field, research is necessary to help us learn more about the complexity of the human body and what we could do to allow ourselves to be healthy as possible.

Another way the School of Nursing matches my interests is its clinical practice. I truly believe excellence takes practice and through clinical practice promoted by the School of Nursing, I would be equipped with all the skills and training required to be an innovative professional nurse. Research on its own will not bring results without action.

The University of Michigan School of Nursing possesses qualities that best support my interests and what I feel will be the best environment for me to continue my higher education. I know I will thrive in the positive, influential environment the School of Nursing has to offer.

Feel free to critique!!! Any edits would be appreciated.

Undergraduate / To be an exception; UMichigan - Community [2]

Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. (Approximately 250 words)

Growing up, living in the 2nd oldest publically subsidized housing project in the United States and oldest in Seattle, I admit that my family and I are poor. We are among the 1200 residents living in Yesler Terrance, an aging public housing community, renown for gang activities and drug crimes. I've seen gangsters broken into cars, heard of people getting jumped because of their jackets, crack addicts smoking and even drug dealers slanging cocaine outside my doors. Kids my age join gangs and disregard their futures. Almost all the kids growing up here are likely to stay and be involved in a life of crimes, except a few.

I am an exception. Living with my parents, who have high expectations for me and taught me to have high expectations for myself, has enabled me to learn the habit of excellence that is deeply rooted in my way of life. From them, I learned how to set a trail, directing me to my dreams and goals and to avoid anything that would stop me from continuing my journey. Having the image of this trail engraved in my mind, I was uninfluenced by the negativity of my surroundings.

I follow the footsteps of people who have lived here and was able to push themselves to success, people like former governor of Washington State, Gary Locke. I apply to the University of Michigan to be an exception and not just one of the statistics.

Undergraduate / City/ People/ Diversity/ Homeliness/ Unity/ Resources; Seattle U - GOOD MATCH? [2]

Hi guys this is my Seattle U supplement. I plan to turn this in tomorrow night so please help me out and give me any helpful feedback!

Prompt: Why do you feel that Seattle University is a good match with your educational goals?
I was weak and prone to illness throughout my childhood. Whether it was a bad flu, severe heartburn or near-death malaria, I constantly visited the hospital. As far as I could remember, whenever I was bed-ridden from my illness, my mother seems to always find a way to nurse me back to health. The image of her feeding me a bowl of soup seems to have always had a special place in my heart and inspired me to be someone just as caring, influential and compassionate.

With the help of Seattle University and specifically the College of Nursing, I will be able to complete two things I have always dreamed of, be the first person in my family to be admitted into a college and most importantly discover and advocate the vision, values and mission of excellent nursing profession. I highly value the college's commitment to social justice, humanitarian emphasis and clinical competencies which will encourage me and go beyond just health care but deeper into honorable human values and ethics.

Along with the university's noble values, its Jesuits tradition of service to others matches my faith and beliefs. I was born and raised a Catholic and I believe my faith as well as the school's emphasis on charity is important in promoting quality health care and allowing me to grow into an honorable nurse. I know I will thrive in the positive, influential environment the College of Nursing has to offer.

As I have lived in Seattle for almost 10 years of my life, I have grown to love this city and its people dearly. Seattle University being in the heart of Seattle's diverse First Hill and Capitol Hill with its vibrant city life brings many opportunities and experiences. Studying on campus at Seattle University will allow me to enjoy the livelihood, homeliness and unity of Seattle while still able to receive an unparalleled educational experience. I believe Seattle University with its College of Nursing and its ideal location provide me the necessary resources to pursuit educational and professional goals.
