Student Talk / Eye surgery messed up my grades and I couldn't attend the dates of the exams (second chance appeal) [14]

Fall O8`.. Eye surgery messed up my grades and I could'nt attend the dates of the exams... I specifically emailed all 3 professors the 4th gave me a B+..

1st- Professor gave me a incomplete and told me to find him next semester (this spring semester which just ended) I did and he gave me two options re-do the final or do a paper. I chose the paper, he said pick a topic from out past class and develop an argument I don't know if you guys remember I posted a while ago about the Newt Gingrich... with all seriousness he didn't even give me the topics... no specification of the paper or length. Just make an argument and talk about it. And so i did, had couple of class mates help me with it and my mother. I emailed him the paper / asked for a meeting to go over it. After 5 weeks or so, I had to go through a hassle top find him through his department I located him and told me hey Moe, sorry the paper is plagiarized, my heart just dropped... and I said to myself? how is that possible? and walked away... I emailed him back again saying what are you talking about I don't see any plagiarism, he said you copied it off Newt Gingrich website, I'm like I'm not in high school why on earth would I COPY IT OFF from the guys website? he looked over it and said " ah! what does Hitler has to do with it? " i said i was using him as a example of how he impacted the world even though he was a grossly bad person and such" he just gave me the whatever face... and I'm like Google everything there is no plagiarism i just got help off a Forums website and a few classmates guided me... he said I'm not discussing this with you please leave my office... and I was 3seconds away from knocking his 4"9 ass to the ground...i told him is it going to kill you your my only grade for getting dismissed? and he repeated leave please.

2nd- Art Renaissance prof.. I give it to her, I was lacking I came to class late and didn't do the assignment so therefore a fail... so I had to take it again and I failed her class again i was absent 2x I had to send my mother to hospital and pick up my little bro from school and go back to class by public transportation, she cut me off and said "wow you got a lot of personal problems don't you?" she smiled and walked away... i was in class every time, did her paper, and i don't even know what i got on my final and she failed me... I just really lost hope..

3rd- Napoleon History, located her did work 3 papers... D- to a B+

that was fall 08

now this spring 09`

I got 2 D+ which was BULL! it has nothing to do with my god damn major... the 3rd class i withdrawal and retaking it now(summer courses) and the same art Renaissance failed me... nothing to do with computer forensics... i don't know now I got a letter to do a letter appeal and got to do another appeal on the newt paper and I got a quick tomorrow for class i with drawled.. and just got a job in a mortgage office and there pressuring me and blah.. maybe I'm not school material? =( I really let my mom down and I hate myself for that...

well can at least someone help me guide me to do this appeal please

feedback is very appreciated guys! like always

Book Reports / Reading Based and Comparsion [4]

3 pages each paper...

Paper Part II: Reading-Based Assignment Using the Textbook and One Outside Source
Expectations: As explained to you in class, you will write a term paper in three separate parts, handed in to me of the course of the semester as drafts, which you will later correct and combine into a complete paper at the end of the semester; this is Part II. For this second part, I expect you to write a historical and text-based analysis of the work of art that you chose on your own during your museum visit. In addition to using your textbook, you should find at least one other textual source (a book or article) to be used to further discuss your work of art or artist. I expect the paper to be at least three (3) typed pages, double-spaced. To do this assignment, please follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1: Using the textbook, begin your essay by identifying the period of time from which your artwork originates. To do this, read through the table of contents and locate the chapter that best fits your artwork. Then, identify and define the style of your artwork based on the information in the textbook concerning other works of art similar to yours. This should NOT be a one or two-sentence description of period and style; instead it should be at least two paragraphs and include the definition of the style in question.

Please keep in mind that your specific artwork and/or artist may or may not be covered in the textbook; if this is the case you may have to find an additional textual source for this part of the paper.

Step 2: Once you have identified the chapter, period and style in which your artist and similar artworks would be placed in the book, provide an overview of the major historical points of the chapter in your essay. Who, besides your chosen artist, were the major artists working at the same time? Where was the focus of the art world at the time? What were the major historical events at the time that your work was made? Who were the foremost purchasers of art? How was art displayed in that time? You must include vocabulary words from the course list in your essay to illustrate the different components of your artwork. Remember to discuss the style, subject matter, media and techniques used in your artwork.

Step 3: Finally, please locate at least one other book or article about your artist, artwork or the style of the artwork. You may use any scholarly book or article. You may use the internet to find articles in a database or archive, such as in JSTOR or on NYTimes.com, but you may not use websites such as Wikipedia OR Encyclopedias for information. To find articles in databases you can look at one or more of the databases on the KCC Kibbee Library website.

After finding your second source and reading it thoroughly, please discuss the following in your essay:

Can you answer any of your original thesis questions from Part I of your paper? Did you learn any biographical information about your artist? What was your artist's life like? Was your specific artwork discussed in your second source? Why did you choose this second source? Did it have a lot of information that you found interesting? Did this book or article contain any additional information about your artwork that you did not read about in the textbook?

Again, I want this essay to be a narrative in your own words. I am not interested in reading papers in which you have cut-and-pasted material right from the books or the internet into your essay.

Questions:

Can anyone give me a detail-to-detail on how to start off with this? i dont have the textbook so how would I be able to do this? How to write a historical reading based paper? The artwork that I have chosen was Hercules the Archer by the French sculptor, Emile Antoine Bourdelle.

how and what exactly to write?

Expectations: As explained to you in class, you will write a term paper in three separate parts, handed in to me of the course of the semester as drafts, which you will later correct and combine into a complete paper at the end of the semester; this is Part III. For this third part, I expect you to write a text-based analysis and comparison of the work of art that you chose on your own during your museum visit with a second work of art that you will choose from the textbook. I expect the paper to be at least three (3) typed pages, double-spaced. To do this assignment, please follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1: Using the textbook, please find a second work of art that in some way is comparable with the work that you chose at the museum. You have the freedom to choose whatever you wish, in any chapter of the textbook, as long as it seems to have some connection with the work of art you chose at the museum. The second artwork could be something that is related in style, subject matter, technique or historical context. The only restriction is that your second artwork must have been created by a different artist. The work could have been made in a different style or time period.

Step 2: Once you have identified a second work of art, compare and contrast these two works. How exactly are they similar? How are they different? Why did you choose the second work of art that you did? Were your artists from the same country or background? How might their lives and approach to art have been similar or different? Are the colors similar or different? What about the other formal qualities (shapes, composition, spatial qualities, forms)?

Step 3: You must include vocabulary words from the course list in your essay to illustrate the different components of your second artwork. Remember to discuss the historical context, style, subject matter, media and techniques used in your second artwork and any information you might learn about your second artist.

Step 4: Finally, remember that this is the end of the paper, so you will need to add a final concluding paragraph that sums up the ENTIRE THREE-PART PAPER PROJECT. What did you learn from doing this project? What would you do differently, if anything, if you were to start it over again?

Again, I want this essay to be a narrative in your own words. I am not interested in reading papers in which you have cut-and-pasted material right from the books or the internet into your essay.

Citations:
I expect that you will use proper citations (such as footnotes, endnotes or parenthetical notes) in your paper. If you do not know how or when to include a citation, please remember to consult a style manual, such as the MLA Style Guide. The thing to remember is that if you include anything in your paper that was based on something you read, written by someone else, you can include it, but you must provide a citation for the original source of the information including page number and date of publication, at least.

Audience:
Assume that the reader of your paper is not me but someone else (a family friend, a brother or sister, etc.), that is, someone who may not know much about art or who may not know which work you chose. This will help you to write a better, more detailed description of the artwork. However, this does not mean that you should write in an informal manner; this is a college-level assignment and should be treated as such. You might have a friend read over your paper before handing it to me to see if it makes sense to them.

Format:
The paper should include the title, an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.
Papers must be typed on clean white paper, double spaced, with no more than 1" margins all around and using a font size no larger than Times New Roman 12.

Please run the spell check feature before turning the paper in to me; spell check will not catch all errors, but it will clean up some basic and minor spelling issues.

Attach the receipt and/or button, the sketch, and the three typed pages, and attach a cover sheet with the title of your paper, your full name, the course number and the section.

No plastic report covers please. Just staple everything together using one staple in the top left corner and include the cover sheet mentioned above.
Length should be approximately three (3) typed pages.
Remember that this part of the paper will be attached to the end of Parts I and II at the end of the semester. Make sure that the ideas seem to flow in a clear an organized manner between all three parts.

Expectations and Grading Criteria:
This paper is a draft, and as such will not be given a number grade but will be evaluated in terms of the depth and quality of the visual analysis, readability and style and organization. On the first draft, you will receive, a "check +" for excellence, a "check" for a good paper, and a "check -" for a poor paper. Papers with a significant amount of errors will be returned to the student unmarked for an immediate re-write. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO RE-WRITE ALL PORTIONS OF THIS PAPER AND RESUMBIT IT WITH MY CORRECTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS AT THE END OF THE TERM FOR A NUMBER GRADE.

Failure to complete this portion of the paper, all drafts and the rewrite at the end of the term will result in a lower final grade.

Writing Feedback / My paper, for Newt Gingrich... [19]

Moe

March 27, 2009

Newt Gingrich was born on June 17, 1943, an American politician who played a role as a speaker of the United States of Representatives. He was chosen by Time magazine as the person the year for his role conducting the Republican Revolution in the House. During his time as a Speaker, he symbolized himself to the public with a fuss with Bill Clinton. Despite the fact that someone may be a grossly immoral person, he or she can still be a successful politician and Newt Gingrich is one of them.

Newt led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by seizing the majority in the U.S. Afterwards he broke up the situation by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Beneath Newt's leadership, congress passed welfare reform, passed the first balanced budget, and passed the first tax cut in several years. There seems to be more than just a "grossly immoral person" but there is an author behind it, published sellers the people noticed him not as a political but a inspirational speaker. Extensively recognized for his commitment to a more improved system of health for everyone, his directing helped save Medicare from bankruptcy, propelled the FDA to reach out and help the seriously ill and focus on research for prevention and such. Due to his donations he was rewarded by American Diabetes Association. Now he assists as a board member at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Newt Gingrich is well on his way as an advocate of increased Federal supporting for basic science research. He is a spectacular contribution to developing the public about science and benefiting to society.

I suppose people tend to look at him as an immoral person; Gingrich has been married three times. He admitted to have an affair during his second marriage at the approximately the same time he was leading congressional investigation of Bill Clinton's affair kind of a hypocritical don't you think? Gingrich also indorses the idea of permitting illegal immigrants to become citizens. I think that's a big step for immigrants into giving a new step to them. Should his affairs have an effect on how we judge Newt Gingrich? Personally I think it does. Why? Well, he's personal life are like second thoughts of a choices. So my question is do you think a choice like that will reflect on Newt's alternatives for America decision for the American people, in-both positive to negative and negative to positive decisions? Gingrich plead guilty for claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes. Newt had been accused of violating federal tax law and had lied to the ethics. But that has been dealt with the IRS.

Gingrich's career ended in 1998 when he abruptly resigned from Congress after poor showings from republicans in elections and after being reprimanded by the House ethics panel overcharges that he used to tax-exempt funding to advance his political goals.

Despite the fact that someone may be a grossly immoral person, they can still be a successful politician. Being grossly immoral is an attribute well suited politician. With all the successful achievements and on how he helped the republican gain strength in Congress also improve its electoral fortunes generally. And all the bad the fact he was an immoral person that he is; yet he was still successful. A pattern of Newt can be Hitler, and huge important political model. He was very fortunate, and possibly the one of the most influential men in modern history. Followed by, Newt Gingrich is an important political figure in history. The point is even especially, repugnant people can make a huge impact in politics.

I honestly didn't mean to I just gathered information and structured what i got from here and implemented it in the essay, what should I do?

Writing Feedback / My paper, for Newt Gingrich... [19]

man, listen to this hes such a jerk!

he told me I did no such work last semester and the paper i did was a makeup for the final exam so he told me to find a topic from the semister so how was I suppose to get any work from semisters ago? so I found out on my own, found some topics he told me to do a page or two (QUOTED FROM HIS MOUTH) and said how he impacted on politicians. I did and he said i playgeried it off of ww.newt.org he showed me a sentenced and it was a totally different line and I paraphrased it myself..

Am I that dumb enough to copy from HIS own website?

and he told me what did Hitler got to do with it and I said even though Hitler was a hatted person everywhere he made a huge impact and so did newt but still succeeded there achievements. and he didn't say anything after that.. and was like " i aint not argument you anymore its done... " go appeal to the committee i said you wanna go through all that hassle?

i said is it going to kill you? to accept my paper..

1 - you didn't give me a specific length of a paper
2- you didn't even give me specific topics to choose
3- you said i did no work? on that course.. so why do i have papers and notes from your class with your handwriting and checking..? he glazed and said nothing...

i don't get it if he doesn't changed my grade im getting dismissed from school... like if i didn't give two shits about it i wouldn't bother but i did... so i lucky found all my notes and papers in a bag from that course and going to appeal to his committee and hopefully I win and get a grade change..

also I jus did a 5page paper on that art paper with compare and contrasts two paintings on my other thread.. and i did it this morning till 5am i read over it to make it perfected and I did as told on the assignment, i failed because my friends copied a paper off of me and he forgot to change it around.. so i was accused of plagiarism.. i gave in my paper and I hope she doesn't accuse me I did everything in my own words and such when I receive it back ill post it and let me know what you guys think.

Book Reports / "Portrait of a Young Man" with St. "Catherine In Prison" - Compare and contrast essay [2]

I chose Portrait of a Young Man by Bronzino ( Mannerist) and compare withSt. Catherine In Prison, by Veronese (Mannerist)... I am suppose to Compare and Contrast the visual elements. For example , how does the presentation differ? The composition? The dark/light pattern? How does the style add ore take away from the subject matter. Talk about the works in terms of their time period, style, subject matter and how that affected the ideas each one expresses..

So how do I start it off in the on intro? and body and conclusion?

I need a outline so i can start reading what i got in the libaray and implment it with the questions and expand it into 4 pages. I got a paper from my friend and she started off with the intro like this:

Nineteenth Century Impressionism evolved in France in the late 1800's. Art works were no longer centered around politics and religion, art did not teach or preach; art works began reflecting the view of the artist. Artists began to take a new interest in depicting landscapes, entertainment, cityscapes, daily life activities etc; they found they're subjects around them rather than in history. Artists often painted outdoors to capture the true essence of nature. A new realism was coming into play. Instead of trying to capture ideal beauty, impressionists wanted to capture a given moment, the original version. Artists began to study natural light and how they could depict it in their art works; they also created art works that evoked a certain mood or atmosphere. Two paintings that are from the impressionism period "Graziella" 1878, by the French artist Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and "Roman Girl at a Fountain" 1875, by the French artist Leon Bonnat. These two paintings exemplify the true aspects of the impressionism period in similar yet contrasting ways.

Painters are both Italian and mannerist and late 1500's I assume so should I explain that what is a mannerist and how does it realtate on the way they thought and there way of styleing due to the time period?

please anyone can help asap its due tomorrow! very very appreciated! thanks guys!

Writing Feedback / My sculpture paper, Emile Antoine Bourdelle [6]

This is due tomorrow so please anyone help me ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my first draft of my paper, I think its unorganized so please if anyone can help me organize it and add/remove/edit anything criteria to:

Step 2: Take detailed descriptive notes on the work you chose. This should consist of a description of the work as you see it. What is going on in the image? What colors are being used? What is the style, subject matter, etc? You should have enough notes on the artwork so that you can write approximately three (3) typed pages on it.

Step 3: Note the artist's name, the title of the work, the medium in which it is made, the date of the work and the size or approximate size of the work. Much of this factual information will be on the wall label next to the artwork.

Step 4: Make a rough sketch of the way the artwork looks. This sketch will not be graded, but it must be included in your draft that you turn in to me. The sketch will help you to remember the details of the image. I will not accept a postcard or photograph of the image, although you can take/buy one for your own use.

Step 5: Go home and start writing. I would like you to address the following questions in this first part of your paper:

- Why did you choose the museum that you did and what was your experience like there?
- Was this your first visit to an art museum? If yes, why have you never gone before? If not, when did you go in the past and what was your reason for going to museums?

- What was the title and date of the work that you chose? Who was the artist who made the artwork?
- What was it that made you choose this work of art specifically?
- What was your first impression of it?
- What is it that you would like to learn about this work of art or its artist when you research it? (Thesis topic)
- What does it look like (give a full description using the notes you took while in front of the artwork)?

Format:
The paper should include a title, an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.

I Cant Even Find Perfect Brush for Painting What is Going Through My Mind

Hercules The Archer sculpted beautiful by the French sculptor known as, Emile Antoine Bourdelle. A modern French sculpture standing at 97 inches tall, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's was found in Paris (France) between 1874 and 1952. The gold bronzy stone statue is one of the famous sculptures in the 19 century. Hercules was enforcing to destroy a huge flock of man-eating birds at a lake near the town of Stymphalos in Corinthia, Greece. Later than, Hercules was assisted by Athena who gave him a pair of clappers to frighten the birds from their hiding place, he was capable of picking them off with his bow in position of his arrows. The main subject of this sculpture came to mind as a mythological face figure type. Is what I like how everything is present.

My first thought about it was "wow "very impressive figure. Not entirely the hero's achievement over the birds, but also Antoine's victory over his own high-spirited motivation, this work is extraordinary equally for its strain and for its balanced assembly. The change comes from the tendency, of the balance and structure. The nude figure proves the power, energetic liveliness, pulled rigid between the arm bending the bow and the foot braced touching the rock. The reference to ancient Greek sculpture and Roman art the almond fashioned eyes, the nose extending in a straight line from the forehead, cheekbones and brows performing since a modern approach.

The reason why I chose The Metropolitan Museum of Art is because is several reasons. First off, I've been there before so why not go again? I know how to get there and its very staff members that assist you with assignments for school. Secondly, they have a audio type of device where an recorded audio tells you about a certain figure, I was too lazy to write down the information and I just listened and remembered, well that's just me. But lastly, it has a everlasting collected works containing more than two million works of art, separated into nineteen curatorial sections. My experience through my trip and back, was a huge hassle, I had to take three different trains and walk six blocks. At first, I gasped because it was really huge and breath-taking by the amount of people visit. But, after I was browsing around my eyes was surprised by this particular sculpture because of the way it stands out to me, the way it was bent over, muscular overlook, as well for the feet bent on the rock; and the very detailed work done. I went to The Met before, to do a similar assignment for Art History Renaissance, yet I failed the course, due to eye surgery, so therefore I am taking the class over, sadly.

On closer inspection, however the gold bronzy statue the material used and the techniques implied are the tan gold-ish made throughout the figure. The gilding, in which Bourdelle applied the thin layer of gold to a surface, was pretty precise in my eyes and interesting. As well for the metal, alloy and the foundry of the sculpture designed. The iconography of the figure is what pretty much impressed me was the main details which are; man, bare, arch, rock. In addition to it on how it was put in perspective for everyone. The sculpture is in excellent condition from what I can see. The right arm is figured like its pulling the bow string as the right leg is perfectly in place on this rigid immense rock, followed by the left leg roughly placed on the opposite side of the immense rock. The inscriptions indicate on the rock under the left foot state: Antoine/Bourdelle 1909, to the left of the signature: Herakles / Pakanz and under the right foot: Alexis Rudier / Foundry owner Paris. The slight upward tilt of the head and the suggestion of an upward gaze of the eyes. In addition, the back inarched with a straight arm holding the bow indirection to the sky. The statue is very self explanatory to be honest though, unless they're pretty moronic.

Overall my first and only impression was that this specific sculpture captured my attention while browsing and overlooking throughout The Met.
