Graduate / 'Mania'. NEUROSCIENCE - personal statement for a MASTER DEGREE [3]

PLEASE VAGIESPEN, DUMI, ICUTURN ANYONE I NEED YOUR HONEST CRITIC AND RECOMMENDATION ON THIS STATEMENT THANKS AND GOD BLESS.
I wish I had observed the signs earlier but Growing up I had a very hardworking relative and she was so hard working that she was envied by most of her pairs her age. She helped me whenever I was down I would always run to her for help. Well at a certain stage in her late forties it became unbearable because she just received a promotion and her job demanded a lot of work, we expected her to run home after work to rest but after work she looks for under engagement like attending every meeting, meeting to deadlines early before it was due and always looking for what to do and whenever she had nothing to do she was out doing vigorous charity work there was always something to do. We thought it was just how she was; not knowing it was a progressive phase of mania to hypomania. We did everything we could to restrain her from going out but whenever she got the chance she literally spent her whole day out working. In her early fifties she went through a phase of depression were she literally put an end to every work activity she stopped going to work despite her valuable position in her office.

I always got irate about her depressive phase because a lot of things at home began to suffer. I always returned her moodiness with anger because I never understood that she was going through a phase. I observed that no matter how much we advised her or how much anger I returned she never changed this prompted me to read on conditions affecting the brain and I stumbled on some symptoms of a brain disorder relating to that which my relative had. I became so interested that I began downloading research journals and reading current problems in this disorder and breakthroughs in this disorder.

My interest in bipolar disorder is the fact that Mania has greater heritability rates than any other major psychiatric disorder
My theoretical, practical and analytical exposure to the challenges faced in effectively harnessing the full potential of microbes, devising ways to develop antibiotics in curing diseases caused by these microorganisms and the ground breaking discoveries in this field led me to take up internship and volunteer work at several organizations including Standards Organization of Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital and Golden Cross Infirmary. Working in these Organizations gave me an insight into my value in the wellbeing of the society and the environment. I realized that at the heart of every industrial and health initiatives lay the work of a scientist.

Studying the information brochure and the University of Georgia home page I also assimilated encouraging comments and achievements from the University's alumni; I believe that a graduate study in your University has a ring of endless possibilities for me.

I believe that I would be a good addition to your program bringing with me positive leadership, dedication, integrity, hard work, discipline and improvement which I believe there is always a room for. I already posses an unwavering commitment to patient care, professionalism, lifelong learning, interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrating an investigatory and analytical thinking approach to patient management and research. I strongly believe that a graduate program at your university would improve my understanding of differential diagnosis, health promotion, all of which I hunger to comprehend. I hope by pursuing this ambition, I will be of service to the African continent where satisfactory neuroscience delivery system is still evolving.

Finally, neuroscience is an intellectually stimulating and constantly growing field of medicine, so what left unanswered in the classroom is to be answered in the laboratory through basic science and clinical research. I am hoping to participate in research that impacts the practice of neuroscience; and to provide high level neuroscience clinical services.

One of the few things I will take into neuroscience is that I can say I have seen various departments that make up the hospital or healthcare units where I worked for 2 years in close partnership with medical doctors as a microbiologists, chemists, hematologists and biochemists carrying out various laboratory test and I believe I have found my place in healthcare as an aspiring neuroscientists.

Writing Feedback / Discipline is an ever increasing problem in modern schools [2]

It is a very good essay like i dont think there is anything wrong but i would like to contribute. i think you should rather that there should be a balance because if any of the two parties are weaker in terms of discipline the children tend to move towards the party that is less disciplined so both teachers and parents should both be disciplined to ensure that there is no hiding place for the child to draw to he/she just has to embrace discipline. for example some schools might give children 15mins play time which is quite small and then when the child goes home his parents lets him play all day.

Graduate / Unexpectedly great presentation - PTCAS: I AM APPLYING FOR A DOCTORATE IN Physical Therapy [2]

Why do you want to attend a physical therapy program with a strong problem based curriculum design? Give examples from your life of how you have demonstrated the independent thinking, problem solving abilities, group interaction skills, and self discipline necessary to succeed in a problem based curriculum.

PLEASE VAGIESPEN, DUMI, ICUTURN ANYONE I NEED YOUR HONEST CRITIC AND RECOMMENDATION ON THIS STATEMENT THANKS AND GOD BLESS.

We had just returned from a mandatory industrial training/attachment we initially received an email instructing us of our supervisors for our projects and seminar presentations. We were also instructed to contact our new supervisors on our topics for the seminar and projects respectively. I was given a topic and had already started communication and preparations with my supervisor on how to go about it.

On arrival in school I was told that I and 5 other students attached to the professor have been given a new supervisor because the former supervisor travelled abroad, all this meant new topic and starting a whole process again. I was given a new supervisor this time and I started with a new topic again. Along the line a new professor was posted to my school and he needed some students to supervise so, I was the only that was picked from my group to be transferred to this new lecturer and all along my topics kept changing and this boiled it down to less than two week preparation from the 2 months stipulated time for preparation. I and 6 other of my colleagues who were already there were privileged to be fixed with a clinical professor this time around.

Due to my yearning for information, I visited my supervisor at every free period I had to get information on how to go about my seminar presentation because I had no time as I had been transferred to different supervisors and the seminar presentation was due in 2 weeks. I had to improve my visit to my lecturer because she could definitely not attend to several students at a time as we all had different topics. My new supervisor also did not admire the processes of my transfer as that meant she also had to start afresh with me after almost rounding up with other students seminars. I really felt left behind but I knew complaining would not be my response when I face all my lecturers to give a presentation.

So, I had to incorporate independent thinking, self discipline and problem solving techniques through constant research and interactions with other research groups from various schools. A week to the seminar presentation my new supervisor called me only to tell me that she did not like my topic as it had been done by a previous group and I might turn in something similar and she told me to pick a topic on my own when I mentioned my topic she was astonished at the difficult topic I had picked and how I was going to achieve that in a week but I had no choice because I had no time to start looking for a new topic. While I was still typing my seminar my colleagues were already rehearsing theirs and putting finishing touches I had to live my room and went to a corner so I could concentrate.

On the day of the seminar after other supervisors saw their students give average performance one of the coordinators stood up and expressed her disappointment at the level of material we had with all the time we were given to prepare. As my colleagues kept presenting one after another, my turn soon came and I could see my new supervisor expected nothing much from me as she could testify she didn't give me her best because I came at the wrong time also, her other students had not given good presentations so what more could I who had less than two weeks preparation do. After my presentation I was given a standing ovation as my professors could testify that I was very unfortunate to have been picked three times to be moved to a new supervisor and with little time to prepare and little supervision I gave the best presentation.

Graduate / A specific event which triggered my decision to become a Physical Therapist. PTCA - DOCTORATE IN PT [4]

Please describe the specific events and experiences that have influenced your decision to become a Physical Therapist. Why do you want to become a Physical Therapist?

VAGESPIEN, DUMI, JKJEREMY OR ANYONE ELSE I NEED A BLUNT PROOFREADING AS MY APPLICATION DEADLINE IS COMING

Growing up I wasn't always prone to having injuries because I always hated scars and we virtually had on physiotherapist on ground at all to help with rehabilitation. Also the fact that school wares were short sleeved so injuries were always visible and different speculations were always raised as to how one got scars. I haven't really had a chance to meet with a physical therapy because we never had one in high school. When we had injuries a bandage is dressed on and healing is left to nature.

I never really picked physical therapy as my first choice program of study even though I have worked for close to two years in hospitals and health care settings as a microbiologists carrying out various medical laboratory tests as a microbiologists but as long as I can remember I have always wanted to have hands on experience with patients in hospitals and being in a laboratory carrying out tests and not knowing who my results were going to or if the patient I carried out tests for survived really riled me. I always yearned for more whenever I was at work in the hospital. During my stay at the hospital I came across a man who had contemplated euthanasia at a certain point in his life when he couldn't bear his pains anymore because he visited a native doctor who caused an irrevocable damage to his leg after he had a stroke. He was made to wear shoes of various heights to balance his movement. I asked him during our conversation his reason for a change of mind on his contemplated euthanasia and he said it was his physical therapists abroad that stood by him during his trying times. He said he admired her dedication, discipline and patients towards a very irate person such as himself. I would believe that this was my first trigger into what my place in the hospital or healthcare environment is to be an aspiring physiotherapist.

Stemming from my physical therapy career is the strong desire to get the word out as to the importance of physiotherapy and to also ensure that with the vast numbers of clinical laboratory, hospitals around my country there should also be physiotherapy rehabilitation centers in every community because some people are taking the places of physical therapists due to their beliefs that they know about the bones and muscles alike and they cause a lot of complications that are sometimes irrevocable. Also, coming from a country were physical therapy is still evolving a lot has to be done to ensure that it grows to greater height given the fact that a lot of injured internally displaced persons are increasing in war torn areas with little or no care for them.

Despite the challenges I faced with the language barrier when giving therapy to internally displaced persons at Nigerian navy reference hospital where I carried my observation hours, I needed no translation to understand the compassion, care and patience given to every patient that entered the room. It gave me perfect examples of why I want to be a physical therapist, and the type I aspire to be one day.

This particular incidence reassured my desire to study physical therapy so as to also put an end to the menace caused by certain individuals who have no value for patient care.

Graduate / "Cite examples of times when you demonstrated professionalism" PTCAS - DOCTORATE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY [2]

What does it mean to be a professional? Please cite personal examples of times when you demonstrated professionalism. 2000WORDS OR LESS
VASGIESPEN, DUMI, JKJEREMY OR ANYONE ELSE I NEED BLUNT REVIEW OF MY ESSAY IT IS STILL ROUGH

Professionals get the job done with good results. They are reliable, and they keep to their promises. If circumstances arise that prevent them from delivering on their promises, they manage expectations up front, and they do their best to make the situation right. Professionals don't make excuses, but focus on finding solutions.

I never really thought a day would come when I would have to do my final year project three times due to unforeseen circumstances. I had just gotten my proposal approved by my supervisor and I also had two months to prepare for my final exams. My colleagues preferred reading for their final papers and then beginning their projects after the exams. While speaking with one of our laboratory technicians she warned that from past experiences students who do their projects after exams either get their materials stolen and due to the number of students doing practical's at the same time space in equipments such as incubators autoclaves and refrigerators were not enough to store samples.

I had a very sensitive project topic which meant I needed all the room I could get without interruptions to be able to carry out my project. My supervisor was not an easy person as he also wanted results and disliked procrastination. Even though he wanted me to read for my exams he also encouraged me to begin my project as soon as possible.

After getting my samples ready I began isolating my microorganisms so I could get to a stage where I could lyophilize them until my exams were over then I could begin the final step of biochemical testing which did not require space.

I started my project before the exams. I went to get my samples from the different sample sites, but due to traffic I got back late so I had to preserve them in the laboratory refrigerator but due to power outage throughout the night my samples got spoilt. I decided to go for another set the same samples; this time I went quite early and got back in time to begin isolation of my microorganisms. I had successfully isolated my organisms and preserved them and this process took me about three days but, there was power outage for a week and my microorganisms couldn't withstand the pressure of thawing. I was so devastated because funds were getting wasted and I was shuffling reading for my finals and finishing my project before my exams to avoid the rush after exams. I went back to my supervisor to explain my challenge and he encouraged me to push further as I was determined to get the job done and still ace my papers with the short time. With just three weeks to my finals I went once again to for another set of samples and got back to isolating my microorganisms while working into the night power went out and my hostel was quite far and I could not abandon my work for a bit. I had to use the torch light from one of the security guards because I didn't want the power outage to deter me this time around. I isolated my organisms successfully once again and preserved them. All along I was keeping my supervisor informed about my findings and results. I had sleepless nights in the laboratory studying and overseeing my project completion and this made my supervisor astonished at my level of determination and organization despite the onerous circumstances beyond my control I remained sturdy. After I was done with my project and gotten clear and accurate results my final exams were also very good. I was given the privilege by my supervisor to supervise the completion of my other colleague's projects advising them on how to avoid my mistakes and unforeseen complications. My supervisor was amazed at my level of responsibility and dedication to get the done without looking for excuses and also ensuring my colleagues also fished theirs.
