TOEFL TEST: People can solve important problems by themselves or with the help from their family members, so there is no need for the government to help them.

Today with the help from technologies, people can solve more problems than they used to. However, the government's policies still play an important role in our life, so I tend to think that people still need the government's help.

There are some problems that people cannot solve all by themselves. The power of individuals is weak, but they can be organized efficiently to obtain some huge ambitions through the arrangement of the government. For example, the air pollution problem is quite sever severe in China. Although people can make contributions to solve the problem through taking public transportation instead of driving their own cars, the main pollution source is the iron or coal factory, which normal people can do nothing about them. However, the government can put more stricter regulations to restrict factories to give off toxic pollutions pouring dusts into the air and punish or close the factories which violate the rules. Moreover, the authority can encourage the public to buy the products from the companies whose producing process is friendly to the environment. With people buying more products from the eco-friendly companies, the merchants will change their making processes. All these measures cannot be done by individuals.

This is also true when people face medical problems. When a person gets a severe disease like cancer, even though the whole family members will try everything to help him out, they often cannot afford such large amount of money. At this time people need government to help them and that's the reason for a national medical care system.

What's more, even people can solve some difficulties they meet in lives, they still need the government to make the things easier. For example, when the young people want to start their own companies, they often find it hard to find early investors to invest them some money. If they have to find investors all by themselves, they have to go to the invest companies one by one and receive receive hundreds of rejections, which will hurt their confidence. On the other hand, investors also find it hard to look up good programs to support. If the government can help to arrange an open meeting, both the entrepreneurs and the investors have a chance to get together to find the best match. It would save them a lot of energies.

In all, today people still have some problems that cannot solved by themselves or with the help of family members. As a result, we still need government to help people and make our life easier.

Lucky people have quite a lot of ways to earn money, but poor people are trapped into the poverty zone and cannot get rid of it. Then charity seems to be one of the efficient ways to eliminate unfair social gaps. So I tend to think the more money people have, the more they should spend on charity for the following reasons.

Firstly, this is their social responsibilities. The government needs a lot of money to build infrastructures such as schools and hospitals and they have money. As we know, money cannot own by a few of people. If that happens, the society will stop developing. Rich people become richer, however, poor people become poorer. Young people don't have any motivation to achieve their dreams or they don't have any dreams. Then the unlucky people maybe too poor to have to rob the rich people and finally there will be big conflicts between two classes. That's the least thing we want to see in the world. But charity can help to lower the possibility. Rich people give money away to the weakest people to help them cure diseases, eat fully, get education, look for a new job and what's the most importantly, give them hope. For example, there are so many buildings called Yifu Building, or Yifu Gyms on university campuses in China. Yifu Shao was a famous and generous person who was a film director in Hong Kong. He thought the most useful way to spend money is to invest on charity.

Secondly, charity can be a way for the rich people to change the world in their way. The more money people have, the more enthusiasm they may have to change the world. The government's responsibility is to firstly ensure its citizens having standard lives, but it may not be the outcomes that the people who have great vision want to see. So in this case, these people who have their own view of the social develop can use their money to make a difference through charity. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, and his wife invested 3,000,000 dollars to the medicine school of the University of California, Berkeley. They hoped they can use the money to finally find some ways to cure some crucial diseases in the next 30 years and created a better world for our next generations.

What's more, the public often doesn't like rich people, so charity becomes a common way for celebrities to use to advertise themselves and investing on charity not necessarily won't have any profits. Once they get more news on television programs, newspapers and magazines, they will have more invitations from TV series, movies and many other social activities. Finally, they get more money in a method that more people consider you are a generous person. For example, Guangbiao Chen is often called Brother Biao by Chinese people. He personally led a team as the first unofficial team to recuse people in the horrible Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008. During the rebuilding, he donated another 1 billion yuan for building schools and providing people with basic needs. He got huge attention during those years and people tended to buy products from his companies. Though he spent 1 billion yuan, he got a success in business and earned far more than 1 billion yuan after all.

To sum up, due to the social responsibility, people's motivation to change the world and hostility from the public to rich people, though people have free will to arrange their money, more money people have, they had better spend more on charity.

We often talk about leadership plays a very important role in today's success. So what's good leadership? Some people may think a great leader can ask a bunch of people to do what he ask, however I tend to consider that a good leader today can listen to people and let them engage in the decision.

Parents teaching children can be viewed as a kind of leadership. Some parents are often annoyed when their children grow into teenagers because they sometimes don't listen to what the parents ask and like to do the opposite. A smart mother won't just make her daughter to do what she like. Instead, she will make it a rule to ask her child's opinion. My sister is this kind of mother. She always let Tim, her boy, to make decisions like learn what kind of instrument or choose where as their family's vacation place. As these decisions are made by Tim himself, he tends to put have enthusiasm to do learn the piano or have more plans on vacation.

This is also true in a student union. Students have their own minds. They won't just listen to the people who is the same age as them. The president of the student union won't make all the decisions all by his own. If he does that, who will choose he as the president next time? The clever student will make a survey to all the students such as what kind of competition we will hold? Volleyball, basketball or soccer? Then when the outcome is basketball, students who don't like basketball won't complain anything as this is the choice of all the people and students who love basketball will be excited as they will play what they like.

In the workplace, this is definitely true. All the workers want their voices to be heard, especially the one who care about the company. My colleague, Adam, told me when he was in his former online education company his boss is such a nice person because he could think of every worker's suggestions. Once they hold a meeting to brainstorm some new ideas about what to do next for the company. Adam just graduated from college at that time and he knew nothing about the online education industry. On the meeting, he said what he thought that the company should cut down the videos into small pieces and each piece could tell a little bit of some big concept as people today wanted to learn something but often failed due to have no large amount of time. His boss considered his idea was reasonable. And finally his suggestion was elected to actually be worked out. Adam, of course, was so excited. He then was assigned to operate the function. He put quite a lot of energy on that because he thought the function was his idea and it's like his baby. On contrary, his new boss never let the normal employees take part into any discussion of the company. He had no idea about what the company was going to do and felt lost. Soon he quit the job.

Today, leaders are not the people who have the loudest voice, but the people who will let everyone make their own contributions to the group. This is true in schools, in family education, in workplace and in many other circumstances. Because if people feel participate in the decision, they will have more enthusiasm to work.
