Can someone help me to review my PhD computer science motivational letter? Thanks in advance
I am writing this letter to apply for the PhD doctoral course available in the research topic "XXX" under the research option "XXX" at the University of XXX. I am XXX, an early stage researcher and final year master's student.
I believe that life, for me, has been a process of continuous evolution. The most integral part of this growth is curiosity, which drove me to pursue a bachelor's degree in computer science. My undergrad provided an insight into various fields of computer science and also helped me to understand my academic strengths and challenges. During my undergrad, I gained multidisciplinary skills by doing several course projects on simulation softwares (MATLAB, CISCO Packet Tracer), artificial intelligence (Image Processing), programming languages (C, C++, C#, Java, PHP), document writing tools (Latex and MS Word), and project management techniques (Final Year Project Leader). Consequently, in my final year project, I led a team of 3 members to implement and defend the final year software project and I got 2nd position overall. Therefore, our team presented the project at a job fair held by multiple software development companies in XXX. This project provided me with the opportunity to learn literature review, project management, information handling and presentation, and research writing, which propelled my interest and motivation towards research and sowed a seed to my long-term research career.
During my undergrad, I found programming challenging, though fascinating, which led me to my first internship and a full-time job after six months as a software developer in a startup company XXX, and my professional career began during my undergrad. There, I learned more about software development, software design and architecture, software testing and software project management. In addition, XXX company provided me an opportunity to diversify my logical reasoning and programming skills from asp.net web pages to asp.net MVC, from modifying existing boilerplates to developing custom software architectures, from working in a small team to leading a team, from reading technical documents to writing user guides and technical documents. I worked on a project with XXX Pvt. Ltd. related to the integration of drones in agriculture and farming during my job in XXX. While working on this project, I conducted an extensive literature review and research on energy conservation, AI-based route optimization, and communication techniques for drones. Hence, this project has reinforced my interest in a broader research domain of cyber-physical systems and IoTs.
My proactive nature and desire to continue my research career made me work on individual projects which led me to a remote job with XXX company as an individual remote web developer, where I was involved in revamping and optimizing websites, developing new modules and integrating secure payment gateway. During my work, I kept learning innovative techniques for online secure payments without compromising user privacy. These ventures inspired me to integrate interdisciplinary research fields of optimization and security in cyber-physical systems. Precisely that's the reason to continue my academic and research career by keeping in mind my long-term career plans. However, the lack of research facilities and awareness in XXX country opt me to make an educational endeavor abroad.
My enthusiasm and industrial experience helped me to get a fully funded Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC). Masters in computer application technology proved to be a life-altering step in my career. It not only provided exposure to a diverse culture and experience to a different educational system, but also strengthen my research expertise and provided me a platform to contribute to research. The first semester of my master's established a foundation for advanced computer networks. However, realizing the fact that there are many skills not taught in the classroom that you need to have to be a professional researcher in this research domain, I joined online courses, workshops and conferences to learn more about wireless networks, artificial intelligence, IoTs, autonomous vehicle, cybersecurity, blockchain and python. Thus, my motivation to research made me work individually from home, even during the pandemic and my course work. I published my first research article in the China Communication journal during the 3rd semester of my master's degree.
My master's thesis at the XXX University in China under the supervision of Dr. XYZ involves the development of a secure and intelligent routing protocol for resource-constrained UAVs using blockchain and artificial intelligence. Currently, I am working on an ongoing research article that mainly focuses on mobile edge computing and UAVs security by employing blockchain and machine learning. However, due to travel restrictions, I joined Communication Systems and Networking lab at XYZ university to perform experiments. In addition, during my master's I worked as a technical project assistant mainly on a dairy farm automation project at XXX company.
This doctoral program supports my career goals to become a leading researcher and further excel in my analytical, research and problem-solving skills. Particularly, the 3 I'S aspect of this research training provides me an opportunity to learn from interdisciplinary experts, experience a diverse international culture and exploit the state-of-the-art research facilities at the University of XYZ. The research objectives of this doctoral program are precisely in line with my career goals and allow me to devote my three years to ambitious research. Considering my industrial experience, research expertise and academic foundation makes me a perfect fit for this research program.
Kind Regards,
