financial aid letter

Dear members of the scholarship committee,
I am writing this letter to express my situation for availing the scholarship
Every time I contemplate on deciding whether to apply or not for the Graduate Institute the factor that pulls me back is my affordability for studying the masters in Graduate Institute. Growing up in a middle class family in India my parents have always supported me and my sister along the studies. Their determination to educate us, which was not accessible to them because of the difficult circumstances, made me a graduate. But doing masters from a university abroad is not affordable for my parents and me. My father who was working in a Printing Press has taken voluntary retirement because he was not able to work after his limb amputation surgery and my mother is running our shop which is the only way of income for us now. In these circumstances without this scholarship my dream of studying in the pioneering university of international studies will remain a dream.

Asking further support from my parents is not easy; the mere income from the store is not enough for medicines for my father and providing for my sister who is in college. As for me I am doing an internship in a software company where the pay is not half of the application fee for Graduate Institute. I really wish to get the scholarship through which I have a chance to study in an excellent University and paving a way for my future goals of working towards gender equality and women empowerment. It will give me freedom to study without thinking about the future financial burden and relieving my parents from taking long standing debts.

I believe education is the medicine which has the heeling property for most of the world issues. I wish to have the privilege to study in Graduate Institute and thus be a part of the social change through education. The experiences and knowledge gathering from the institution will be the biggest asset for me for my future endurance.

Thank you for considering my scholarship letter. I hope to have the privilege of getting the scholarship.
Best regards,

I believe it perfectly conveys your family conditions and economic backgrounds. However, I feel this remains a little generic in terms of demonstrated interest. If you craft the letter with specific references to the universities features which'll help in elevating you and your family, then it would show the reader that you really intend to attend that university.
