Goals for 2 years and Why:
My goal for my future is to return to the Marshfield area work force. I am planning on
attending the Bloomer School of Reflexology in Bloomer WI, because I wish to provide my
community with the choice of an alternative medicine using Reflexology. A local chiropractor has
agreed to rent space for my clients. With a lot of people who have adverse drug reactions or unable to pay for medications, this would give them an alternative. Reflexology is noninvasive and
is portable so I would be able to treat people at other locations. My plan is to work 3 days a week and perhaps volunteer at a local nursing home one day and in a sports area the other day. I want to be a taxpayer again and be able to help the community by helping one person at a time. I wish to be
independent, so that I am able to provide health insurance and contribute to my family again. I plan
on working until I am either 68 or 70 years old.
The reason why I chose the Pete La Grand Scholarship is I am a nontraditional student. My last job ended Dec 31,2009 when Wood County sold three of their group homes. I needed time to make a
good decision on what I wanted to do as a profession. After 35 years of health care and being on call 24/7, I became burnt out. When I heard of a 4-H youth member having such bad headaches that they are in the hospital for weeks my heart broke. I wanted to do something that might be able to help her. Eastern Medicine for centuries have been able to help people with pain relief through reflexology. My youngest daughter always liked having her feet rubbed, I then realized this would be
good therapy and with some research I put the two together.
I am very excited about this new route for me. Upon graduation from the program I plan to provide the best care in the state. I feel that this scholarship will help me accomplish this goal.
Thank you
Diane
