Dear all!
Please, help me to improve and revise my essay.
Books entertain us, educate and help to solve many difficult problems and they teach us to hope and dream. I'm fond of reading and I cannot imagine my life without books. Besides, I like to read articles, essays, sketches, and short stories in magazines.

I read a lot at school where my favorite subject was literature. After school I decided to be a journalist or an author. I finished school in 2006 and became a student of Magnitogorsk State University where I studied journalism. I read extensively at the university. Especially I liked English and American literature. I read O. Henry, Theodore Dreiser, Margaret Mitchell, Ayn Rand, Jack London, Ernest Hemingway, Arthur Hailey and others. At the university I began to read some English and American books in the original because I like English very much. I like fiction and my favorite type of books are novels. Last year I read a very interesting book by Margaret Mitchell titled "Gone with the wind" which made a very deep impression on me. Currently my favorite writer is Margaret Mitchell and my favorite literary characters are Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler because they are convincing and alive. O. Henry's stories are very interesting, simply breath-catching. I read "The Last Leaf" and "The gift of the Magi". It impressed me greatly. I like O. Henry because he could work out a plot that would keep the reader in suspense up to the surprising end. I read "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. I like "An American Tragedy" and "Jennie Gerhardt" by Theodore Dreiser. "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger, "Hotel" and "Airport" by Arthur Hailey. I think people who don't read a lot rarely write well.

My interest in creative writing has been developing while I was a student of Magnitogorsk State University, where English and American literature and magazine writing were my favorite majors. I had been studying journalism at Magnitogorsk State University for 5 years. During my studies, I specialized in woman's media in short story genre. The dean of my department suggested that I did a research on the women's magazine which is considered one the most popular kinds of press in Russia, and advised me to look for material in the woman's magazines such as Cosmopolitan, My Story, Real-Life Story.

Also during my studies I was a freelance author. In the second-year course I began to publish articles, stories in the women's press. I was first published in 2008 in a women's magazine of a publishing house Severnaya Nedelya where my first short story and article appeared. I have had considerable practical training in dealing with a publishing house Severnaya Nedelya since 2008. I undertook an internship with the above publishing house during my studies. Since that time I have written stories for woman's media. I graduated from Magnitogorsk State University in 2012. I currently work as a freelance author in a publishing house Severnaya Nedelya. It is the basis for me wishing to pursue a career in literary activity.

After this interesting experience I am bent on becoming an author because I understand that I like to make up stories more than only to describe different news. I think I have a flair for writing fiction. In my spare time I enjoy reading and creative writing and collecting the material for my stories, sketches, and articles.

The skills gained at the university have significantly contributed to my professional development. I want to pursue my further education, my research, my journalistic and literary career. Therefore, I hope I could find the necessary educational resources in the United States, as well as better infrastructure, including research workshops, seminars, courses etc. I believe that my training in the United States would be beneficial to me as a professional author, journalist, and a well-educated person. And of course, I would like to bring a piece of American culture to my future life in Russia. After returning from the US I intend to continue my professional career in Russia. My educational objectives in the United States are linked to my academic work, working in publishing house and making further development in literary activity as well as to create basis for my future career in Russia.

Your opening statement is great!... I finished school in 2006 and became a student of Magnitogorsk State University where I studied journalism and read extensively at the university(I would make one sentence out of that). [/i

[i]You may consider condensing the section of author's and book 's names just a bit...

I am determined to further my education,...
Good job, I made a few slight revisions, also I think you need more of a powerful closing statement on "what it means..." to you or "The future I clearly see for myself..."

Good luck!
