Dear Sir/Madam:
I am writing to apply for your Master's program in Geoscience, specifically Geophysics option due to commence in autumn 2013. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, having graduated in November, 2011 from the University of Ghana.
During my first degree pursuit, I became fascinated with problems that involve investigating the earth for its resources. My interest in geophysics was aroused by the fact that it is a preliminary stage exploration method that can be applied to identify the natural resources. With the increasing rate of globalization and modernization, more materials in the earth have become exceptionally significant, and this has pressed the need to discover the materials in large quantities and by modern techniques to achieve extraction and utilization. I am determined to study the new methods and techniques that will facilitate the accessibility and availability of these materials.
My research work was based on implementing Electrical Resistivity method on purposes of groundwater investigation. The project thesis focused on involving four different electrode configurations thus Wenner, Schlumberger, Dipole-dipole and Gradient, and determining the most appropriate and informative. At the end of the project, it was presented to students and lecturers in the Department of Earth Science to understand the efficiency of these configurations.
I want to study at the University of Oslo because of your outstanding educational systems and excellent facilities. The Master's Degree program is a two-year course study and master thesis program to prepare students for a career in the petroleum industry and in the associated seismic processing companies, in geophysical prospecting in relation in particular to geotechnical studies, or in more specialized disciplines such as seismology. With many distinguished scientists and professors, I know I will gain expert knowledge in the field as well as practical experiences.
With a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical studies, and the intensive studies and research works in the Master's Degree program, I will develop my skills, ideas and knowledge in Geophysics and implement them towards the benefit of my resource rich country, Ghana.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your acceptance.
Sincerely yours,
Thomas Hayford.
