Dear Members of the GLOCAL Admissions Committee,
I am writing to express my strong motivation to join the Erasmus Mundus Master's in Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL), Track A. With a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Damascus University, complemented by professional experience in business administration and sports leadership, I am eager to contribute to and grow within a program that bridges global history, market dynamics, and social transformation.
My academic background in English Literature has shaped the way I think critically about culture, communication, and the human experience-skills that naturally align with GLOCAL's interdisciplinary approach. Studying literature in a country marked by both rich history and ongoing challenges taught me how context, identity, and culture shape economic and social development. This foundation nurtured my ability to analyze global narratives and their local impact, a perspective that I now wish to apply to global business and community development.
During my time at Eagle Eye Agency (2023-2024), I served as an Executive Secretary, a role that required strong management, strategic communication, and cross-functional coordination. I was responsible for preparing bid proposals, maintaining client correspondence, and managing key documentation for business projects. This experience exposed me to the operational and ethical dimensions of business, sparking my interest in how organizations adapt, grow, and maintain integrity in dynamic markets. It also strengthened my leadership and problem-solving abilities-qualities I aim to further refine through the GLOCAL program's emphasis on business and society.
In parallel with my professional journey, I have been deeply involved in the world of sports. I began playing basketball in 2015 and continued at a professional level with the Women's First Division Team, serving as team captain for five years. I represented Syria in tournaments in Belarus, Jordan, Lebanon, and Tunisia, gaining firsthand experience in intercultural collaboration and resilience under pressure. Later, as a youth basketball coach, I discovered how management and mentorship can drive growth and empowerment, particularly among younger generations. This blend of teamwork, discipline, and leadership has shaped my values and strengthened my understanding of the human side of management.
Beyond formal education, I have taken proactive steps to expand my professional knowledge. Through Coursera, I have completed courses in International Business, Marketing and Advertising, and Human Resource Management. These studies have enhanced my understanding of global markets, consumer behavior, and organizational strategy, equipping me with both the theoretical and practical foundations essential for GLOCAL's interdisciplinary focus. The courses provided in this track-such as The Globalised Economy at Glasgow, Creative Cities: Intervention Models and Entrepreneurial Dynamics in Barcelona, and Heritage and Fashion in Rotterdam-perfectly align with my experiences and aspirations, offering an opportunity to connect creativity, leadership, and ethical growth within a global context.
I am fluent in Arabic and English, and I have achieved B1 proficiency in Spanish, which I continue to improve. My linguistic skills enable me to navigate multicultural settings and engage effectively across diverse environments-an essential skill in this globalized academic and professional landscape.
Coming from Syria, a country that has endured years of instability, has deeply influenced my perspective. Access to global education is limited, yet it is the key to rebuilding institutions and fostering ethical development. Receiving a fully funded scholarship through Erasmus Mundus would not only make this opportunity possible for me financially but would also allow me to bring my unique background, resilience, and cross-cultural insights to the program. I aim to contribute actively to class discussions, offering perspectives rooted in both cultural studies and lived experience in challenging contexts.
For my Master's thesis, I hope to explore how ethical leadership and creative entrepreneurship can foster social and economic resilience in emerging or post-conflict economies-linking directly to GLOCAL's mission of understanding how local contexts influence global markets. After completing the program, I aspire to work with international organizations or NGOs focused on sustainable business development and youth empowerment through sports and education. In the long term, I hope to contribute to developing frameworks that support ethical business ecosystems and cultural innovation in underrepresented regions.
The GLOCAL program represents for me not only an academic pursuit but a platform for transformation-one that merges my intellectual curiosity, leadership experience, and commitment to ethical global development. I am confident that my interdisciplinary background and determination to make a meaningful contribution will add value to your diverse academic community.
Thank you for considering my application. I am deeply inspired by the mission of the GLOCAL program and would be honored to contribute to its vision of connecting global markets with local creativity and integrity.
