leadership in fight against poverty
Leadership is not a position of which one is elected, appointed or enthroned, it is a task or a choice one has to take to serve. to do this constantly and in a successful manner, it entails that one must positively influence, empower and motivate individuals, having them fully understand their uniqueness, spirits, qualities, limitations, fears and desires.''we are here to put a dent on the universe, otherwise why else even be here?'' Steve Jobs.
Citizens around the world especially developing countries like Nigeria are not well empowered educationally, therefore the potential for unrest and poverty is elevated. This reality can reflect on various aspects such as ability to feed, access to adequate health care, influence on social status and immediate environment and other aspects of redistributive justice.
In the past years I have volunteered to go to the field and make an impact on the health of individuals who has little or no access to health care, clothing, feeding and adequate education as the case may be. as a health practitioner,i am tasked with the health of individuals around me. Each year for the past four(4) years, I have volunteered to facilitate the sensitization of individuals on psychiatry, a program that makes a positive impact on how individuals with mental illness are stigmatized as being possessed by demonic spirits, i have also volunteered for polio vaccination programs at a local private medical provider that has saved thousands of lives.
Regarding my course of choice for this scholarship (public health) My goal is reaching out to those in the most impoverished regions of the country, if and when successful, this will help create opportunities for members of these communities to develop personal skills for their survival. Reorienting the health care system through policy implementation to strengthen primary health care and also encourage community health will also be a goal to achieve.
In conclusion poverty is the worse form of violence and to defeat poverty, it is important to provide interventions that will enable sustainable development. it is also important to evaluate the outcomes of these interventions as a measure of how much these set goals can be achieved.
