Personal Statement for KGSP 2018
My name is Miracle Heart. Am a Nigerian student temporarily residing in South Africa.
Firstly, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for this opportunity to apply for KGSP scholarship.
I am a graduate of MSC Business college, East London, South Africa holding a FET certificate in Technical Financial Accounting which involves Computerized accounting.
Computers have held a long-life fascination for me. What started as an interest in just using them developed into a growing desire to understand how collection of simple ideas and elements can interact to produce an entity as complicated and cooperative as a computer.
Computers are becoming increasingly important in our everyday lives including the financial industry and I am excited that I could be in the forefront of the next generation of computer technologies. The decision to take computer science was therefore a simple one.
I was born in the city of Onitsha in the Eastern part of Nigeria as the 6th child of the family of 8.
During High School, I was drawn to the internet and how it works that I joined the computer club to have unrestricted access to computers. I was 13 years old when my father bought our first desktop computer. Since then my interest in computers grew deeply and I dreamed of becoming an important person in the field of computer.
I finally got closer to my dreams when I had to emigrate to South Africa to join my mother who is a missionary in the Eastern Cape of South Africa in her missionary work. South Africa unlike Nigeria were more advanced in Computer technology, so fueling my interest in computers got easier.
I started studying Technical Financial Accounting in Msc Business College been unable to pursue my dreams in Computer Science due to high academic bill required to study as an international student.
I volunteered as a Mathematics and Computer Science teacher in Squatter Camps and other needed places during the Missionary work but I worked part-time at a Computer Company (Metalite Pc Technologies) as a software apprentice to keep my dream on computer alive.
Coming from a family where my father is a business man who worked really hard to send his children to the best schools in the country, learning and diversification of skills was a family tradition. I for one learnt the skill of Arc welding, Aluminum windows and doors fabrication and when I had to relocate to Lagos to start my preparation and application to emigrate to South Africa to help my mother as a Christian missionary I also acquired the skill of Hairdressing, pedicure and manicure in a beauty salon closed to my residence.
While learning all these skills, I never lost sight of dream which was computers so i enrolled part-time in a computer school (Lord's concept academy) and had to work there also as a computer science teacher to junior school students to cover my tuition fees.
I am a very determined and self-motivated person and once I have set myself a goal, I strive to achieve it. I earnestly look forward to a promising career in the Computer-field and hope my studies at the university will be productive both to me and the large community which I am part of, as I believe it to be an extremely dynamic and versatile area of work, with many exciting opportunities.
I bring along an aptitude for teaching and team work, a zest for challenges and an enthusiastic desire to learn all I can. I would like to take with me, in addition to knowledge of computers, a network of strong and lasting relationships with my teachers and fellow students.
If awarded this scholarship, I know I can fulfill my aspirations and this scholarship will literally be the gift that keeps on giving. Furthermore, I believe that my studies would assist me in achieving these goals that I dream to make true in future at your foremost University.
Now I submit my application with full confidence in the hope of winning a favorable permit. I hope to encounter new opportunities, make new friends and rise to the challenge of becoming one of the best in world of computer technologies and a good representative of my Alma mater.
Many thanks for your kind consideration
