I can be described by various words, but one word that stands out throughout my life is adaptability. People can put any label on me, but they can not say that I have not been able to adjust to a new circumstance or environment. Being adaptable means being able to handle change in my life. It is an important strength that allows an individual to become successful. Success isn't something people get lucky with; in reality, you work hard to get yourself out of that cozy comfort zone and you put yourself out in the open for change. I challenge myself everyday to shatter the comfort zone that deflects me from the path of success. As I exercise this challenge, I respond engagingly towards change by embracing my surroundings.
Three years ago, I had to face a death of a dearly loved individual. There is no positive way to go about a situation in where your beloved grandmother passes away due to cancer. I was in shock at first and it didn't really hit until her funeral came along. I broke down and told myself to not fall into the dark oblivion of depression. That unfortunate event did shape who I am today, now I embrace the importance of life and try not to take anything for granted. The same year, my parents announce their anticipated divorce. At first, I thought this is good; I won't have to see my father drunk every Friday night or hear my parents spew horrible insults towards one another. Two months go by and my mother, still affected by her mother's death, slowly becomes thinner and depressed. While my father pops up on my phone only when he decides he misses my sisters and me. I became very numb to everything that was happening and didn't really know how to communicate my emotions. One day I wake up and think "You know what, if I want something to change then it's up to me to change it". So I focused on my mother and tried to give her more attention and love as well as my sisters; as for my father I cut him out because I didn't need any negativity in my life. I learned to adjust because when life beats you down and you fall lower than you've ever been, you have to stand up and shake it off. Not many people can adjust to change, this strength of mine makes me valuable in a sense that I have an inner motivation engraved in my soul. You've got to embrace the life you have been given and make the best out of it.
