In an essay of up to 200 words, describe your plan of study and/ or research you propose to pursue and relate this to your future career plan
When I was young, my father passed away and left me something that changed my life, a business worth thousands of naira. Some of my best days were spent looking after the business and the books of recording all accounting transactions of the business. Since then, I developed the interest and passion to be an accountant. And I solidified my decision for the course (Islamic Banking and Finance/Islamic Finance) during my undergraduate studies.
After I graduated from the university, I worked as a volunteered teacher at the Government Day Secondary School Gandu, for a period of 10 months. I taught Financial Accounting, and every single student I taught secured a good grade (A-C) that year. I have never been more proud of my life like that success.
Studying this program (Islamic Banking and Finance/Islamic Finance) will assist me in gaining the necessary skills and knowledge required to work in this growing and sophisticated banking and finance sector. And to effectively perform relevant banking and finance tasks, including specific requirements of Islamic banking, financial products and services, as imparting knowledge is my main future career plan.
I expect to develop my intellectual ability to work effectively in teams and independently. To evaluate critically, think creatively and communicate effectively with respect to issues in general, commercial and Islamic banking and finance. And to recognize good practice in the analysis, planning and management of general, commercial and Islamic banking and finance as well as Islamic Finance products and services.
I am confident that my undergraduate educations at the Federal University Kashere, Gombe had given me a firm foundation in Financial Accounting and Islamic Banking. I was particularly fortunate to work in my research project with Dr. Umale Okoh determining the impact of Value-added Tax on revenue generation. This work resulted in an accepted research paper and presentations at several symposia. I also conducted some other research which was presented at seminars, workshop and enlightenment gathering such as "Personal Income Tax Administration in Nigeria Challenges and Prospects", The Kind of Governor Gombe People deserve in 2019", among others.
I completed my B.Sc. in accounting studies at Federal University Kashere. I hope to obtain someday a job as a university professor. I am attracted to this lifestyle, the freedom to decide what one wants to research and the stimulation of the academic community. I seek to become a first-rate masters researcher in the field of Islamic banking while at the same time constantly scrutinize the principles of Islamic finance and erudition.
In addition to the analytical determination of the impact of Value-added Tax on revenue generation, I have conducted research with Dr. Sani Alfred on "Corporate Governance Mechanisms and Earnings Quality of Listed Manufacturing Companies in Nigeria". It is after the completion of this research I develop interest in conducting research on corporate governance. And presently my proposed research topic for the master's program is "Corporate Governance and Firm Value on Islamic Perspective"
My professional goals are to learn as much as I can about higher education that would strengthen my awareness about trends within the field and how I can contribute to the overall mission and purpose of the profession.
My proposed career plan and future ambition upon completion of the program (Islamic Banking and Finance/Islamic Finance) is to be an academic with one of the prestigious institutions in Nigeria. Imparting knowledge will serve as a great advantage to younger generation, as we have only a few universities which are offering both Islamic Banking and Finance/Islamic Finance in the country.
