Chevening is looking for individuals with strong networking skills, who will engage with the Chevening community and influence and lead others in their chosen profession. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your networking skills, and outline how you hope to use these skills in the future.
The power of having good relationships can open doors. Through networks you have the opportunity to learn from hits and misses of other people and to use the work done instead of starting from nothing. A good communication is an essential part to create links, humans as well as animals need these links to survive.
For that reason, I have been working to establish connections in my area of study by attending seminars and conferences. One of them is the series of events of the Data Management Association International (DAMA) in Mexico where I have access to specific knowledge and the chance to meet more experienced people. Furthermore, this seminars allow me to be informed about the new technologies and the best practices of managing data.
In 2014, I also participated in conferences of Transforming Data With Intelligence (TDWI), representing the Bank of Mexico in Orlando Florida. Through this forum I could share experiences with people of other companies. Moreover, hearing colleagues of different countries with similar objectives gave me the opportunity to learn how analogous problems in the organizations have been solved and to look forward for technologies that could be implemented in my institution to have a better performance.
In addition, another important point is to be in touch with classmates and have relations with those that are also in constant update and have been involved in different areas of specialization. In comparison, I have developed links with people of my organization of different departments and areas of study. I have to communicate everyday with them to define methodologies for the creation of financial indicators. This have helped me to acquire knowledge in economy and finance and to collaborate with them to create data analysis for a better understanding of the business.
However, professional networks are not the only thing that matter, I also have established friendship and connections with many groups of people, for example, in Canada, where I spend one month studying for improving my writing skills and I could meet people of different nationalities.
Above all, in the future, I will be pleased to organize forums with other Chevening students in order to contribute extend my area of study and to promote the use of data science in the organizations. The Chevening Scolarship will provide me more connections with people of all over the world that will enhance my career as well as my personal life.
In conclusion, I have the ability to create networks within many sectors and this have gave me weapons to create opportunities that could be used in the future.
