I want to prepare my statement of purpose for chemistry (undergraduate) and for scholarship too, but i don't know anything about how to write it !!! i have to write my sop together with the reason for receive a scholarship or not??? i have to offer for a scholarship because my parent don't have much money to spent for me (my family 's income : around 40000-48000 $ per year) .I know my English language is not so good because English is not my first language in my country ,but i will improve it before i start my course (if i accept from the university).
This is all my essay that i write and edit it many times ,but i think some part of it 's boring and have many mistakes . /who can help me edit it and comment it ??
Help me please !!!! Thank you :)))
Science has proven to the world that it could provide more benefits to the people and the environment than harm. Since my teenage years, I have always been curious as to why my parent would not let me drink rain water, but when I entered high school, it has become clear that, in classroom, my science teacher told me and my fellow classmates that rain water contains acid and it is considered as a health hazard. Rain sample taken from the lab tested positive for acidity clearly enlighten everyone in classroom. Clearly, science is a fascinating subject, and as I get involve more and more in scientific activities, I realize that science is merely fun and helpful, but it is my true passion. In the future I wish to utilize my scientific skills, especially in organic chemistry to provide rationale and explanation to unexplained scientific questions. My long-term goal is to assume a role as a scientist and work as a chemistry professor at local universities. The decision to become a scientist was easy for me, and pursuing undergraduate at the university.
My life in high school gave me chance to begin a new life and start to fulfill my potential in both activity and education. The extracurricular activities I participating in through my high school years included my roles as: the president in finance and project of the student council, the president of DJ club, a main member of the youth scientist club, a main member of the school's cheerleader team, a member of the school's chorus team, a member of Acting club, a member of Jazz and hip-hop dance club, etc. Meanwhile, my academic scores have greatly improved, and I managed to average score 80% overall on my examinations.
Being competitive and highly composed, since high school, I have participated in numerous physic and scientific experiments. One of which is the astronomical experiment offered by my high school. This experiment is considered to be my first step into the world of scientific experiment which allowed me to explore the spectrum in universe with a group of teenager who share similar passion for science and physic knowledge. The result of the experiment conducted by my team was very impressive and well praised for detailed explanation on the "Orion" in the universe. As a result of hard work, this particular experiment earned me a plane ticket to a study tour at "OHP" in France. Being successful and determined to learn more about physic and astronomy, I decided to embark on the other experiment conducted on "Variable Star" which actually gained me a plane seat to Japan to present my research work at Junior Session Astronomical event. As a sole representative from Thailand, it was an overwhelming experience, but more importantly, this presentation has certainly beefed up my sense of confident as a young researcher.
Overall, these astrochemical experiments that I have conducted in high school are the major turning point toward the field of chemistry. In this regard, my most impressive scientific research involvement took place when I decided to participate in a scientific research project called, "Using Substances from Vegetable to Verify Steroid in Medicine." Evidently, this research project aims at utilizing natural substances extracted from local produce, therefore it is organically clean, safe and cost efficient in terms of commercial use. The experiment was conducted at Mae Fah Luang University where a team of researcher including myself and my professor conducted an experiment on natural substances at university's laboratory. After series of chemical tests, we were able to extract the natural substances from local vegetables and fruits used to verify steroid. This experiment earned me another plane seat to Russia to participate in the environmental forum and a youth science camp. More importantly, the outcome of this experiment actually earned me and other researchers a place in the semi-final youth science project contest 2011. And recently, I was selected to participate in the 4th ASEAN Youth Science Festival.
The abovementioned experimental experiences combined with my endless quest for scientific knowledge at my early teenage years have paved the way for me to pursue real-world work experiences related to science and chemistry. After series of interview, I was recruited by a local health center to work in a pharmaceutical unit to screen through the chemical substances in the new medicine before dispensing to patients. The other work experience that ensures my passion to work in the field of chemistry came as a result of my participation in a local chemical company. My primary responsibility includes conducting experiment on chemical substances and its safety.
These two work experiences combined with years of experiments have enabled me to foresee the demand for scientific knowledge expansion in Thailand as more and more foreign chemical companies and Thai youngsters are interested in becoming part of the scientific development in Thailand. Therefore, an expert in the area of organic chemistry is greatly needed to fulfill an ever increasing demand for chemical expert. For this reason, I wish to further enhance my scientific knowledge, especially in the area of organic chemistry. I have selected degree in Chemistry at the university because the program offers comprehensive knowledge in organic chemistry which I could use in my future career as a researcher and a lecturer. By participating in the graduate program, I will bring with me my sense of humor and friendly character to the university community. In addition, I am willing to share with others some of my exciting experimental experiences as well as my vision for chemical knowledge development in Thailand. Lastly, I am hoping to be a major contributor to this program and I do hope that the university will be a memorable learning experience for me and others who share similar passion for taking chemical industry to the next level.
