Statement of Purpose
Few months ago been a dental Technologist corper undergoing a Mandatory clinical exposure in a state owned dental hospital North-East Region Nigeria. I realized that most patients more especially the geriatrics reject and declined the fabrication of prostheses due to the pain and stress involved during fabrication not minding the benefits of the prostheses or appliances. Adversely, I see how this problem cause dental Technologist to make lots of error prescription and recording due to lack of advanced and digital approach in fabricating a dental prostheses and appliances. I further discovered, Majority of Dental Technology laboratory in Nigeria are faced with same issue, so I thought to myself "if only dental Technologist in Nigeria would totally embrace advanced and digital technology approach in the fabrication of prostheses and appliances , there will definitely be a drastic improvement in dental Technology profession in Nigeria " This thought ignited me to develop more interest in the Impact of Digital Dental Technology and Implantology profession in Nigeria.
My goal is to improve the knowledge of digital dental Technology and Implantology practice in Nigeria in order to eliminate and Curtail the pain and stress filled procedures in the fabrication of Prostheses and appliances and establish a full equipped digital and Implantology dental laboratory in Nigeria.
The root of my interest in the field of Dental Technology digs down to my Childhood days where my close friend lost his Maxillary Left Central incisor during a Football match and was taken to a dental clinic for treatment, unfortunately he was informed that the tooth won't erupt again. It was like a dream cut short for him losing a tooth at that age and being a shy person he won't be able to approach ladies, Because of the ugly situation we were so inquisitive to Know a way to close up the edentulous gap without anyone knowing about it. The situation pushed me to a dental clinic where I was told about the possibility of replacing the edentulous space , procedures and the profession involved. Out of the zeal in me to help my friend, I got a volunteer position as a Dental Assistant in a dental clinic where my knowledge about Dental Technology profession were enlightened and widen.
In 2013, I gained an admission into Federal School of Dental Technology and Therapy where I studied Dental Technology graduated with an Upper Credit of CGPA of 3.39/4.0 where I obtained a Higher National Diploma in Dental Technology. In 2019, I proceed for one year compulsory Internship program at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital where I took precise impression from patient, enabling accurate dental device fitting, Treated patients on emergency basis to Denture repair, relining and reading. After the period of my internship program, I enrolled for one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps at Borno State Dental Hospital Maiduguri, Northeast Nigeria where I experience and found out that a lot of patients declined visiting a dental Technology laboratory due to the paid in and stress experienced from the manual and Old approach of fabricating Prostheses and prefer living with the edentulous space. I fancy the opportunity to position myself in solving this problem by acquiring the skills and knowledge needed in approaching the fabrication of appliances and Prostheses digitally and training the up coming Dental Technologist in order to minimize the old approach or procedures.
