I am a young female with a deep passion to further my education here in America. I have considered myself as a hardworking student and I have come this far to continue my studies on Mass Communication. I am currently studying French at French University, Language Centre.
Graduating from high school on Puerto Rico, students have no choice but to study general courses that includes all from social science, science, mathematics and also English. Therefore, while studying at Kathedral College and Puerto Secondary School back on Puerto Rico I did general courses rather than having one particular major. To me studying was to show how bright you are at school by competing against other students in your grade. Ever since primary school I have understood going to school is to learn and to memorise the things that you have learned and to show that you are a smart student by achieving high marks in the examination. I am a high achiever during primary years and also high school years up to now I have never given up studying. These days I have understood that studying is to be aiming your future and for the future for your country.
So upon graduating as a high school student I attended the University which is a Distance and Flexible Learning program. There is only one small campus for University on Puerto Rico and this also is a problem for many students who are studying there. At our University campus on Puerto Rico there are is a small library that do not have all the materials and resources that the students need. Books to read and also text books to be borrowed are limited. We have no science labs and the computer lab has only about ten computers and the internet is also slow. I have studied at this campus for two years and I have struggled for myself to be successful in what I am aiming for. Therefore, in account with all other Puerto Rican students studying on Puerto Rico it is complicated.
On Puerto Rico there are many professional position held by non Puerto Rican. This is because our own people have not had the opportunity for good education, or to be able to be trained for the position of doctors, lawyers, economists, and so on. Slowly through the generosity of the TRUT scholarship scheme, some people are being given the chance to gain a university degree. If I am given this opportunity I am confident that not only will this education benefit me personally but also my nation Puerto Rico.
After extensive research and consideration, however, I truly feel that This University can give me the best schooling and the best preparation to attain my goals in life.
I am certain that once I am in, I will have the motivation and ability to succeed. I believe that This University has great educational values and a diverse student body, truly an educational institution where I can learn from both faculty and student interactions.
(PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ESSAY IF IT IT GOOD OR NEEDS TO BE CHANGED A LITTLE!)
