Hello everyone,
I started out really late on my essays and am using the first draft for each, I only have till noon today, so I'd appreciate any comment I can get:
This is the fourth essay:
CAREER PLAN QUESTION
By the year 2019 and upon completion of my master's degree in the UK, I intend to return to my home province of Najaf and immediately secure a teaching position as assistant lecturer at the University of Kufa, the same university I attained my BA degree. As my chosen university courses are all related to English language and literature, I hope to be given a position that will enable me to teach freshman and sophomore years in either novel or poetry, implementing the skills and knowledge I learned as a result of my Chevening experience. Throughout the course, I plan to teach students critical thinking methods, creative writing skills, and proper research writing to give them a solid foundation before moving on to the more difficult subject matter in their third and fourth years of college. My lectures will aim at targeting and honing in on any trouble areas that students might have as a result of previous inadequate teaching and to work on their weaknesses till they have gained a basic proficiency of the English language and move on to enjoy the rich literature it has to offer.
Moreover, throughout my work as a lecturer there, I mean to recruit a group of students who show a talent or interest in writing, establishing an organization with the agreement of the dean of the College of Arts. The organization will hold weekly afternoon programs and monthly meetings. It will include creative writing prompts, American and European short stories, and live poetry slams. I believe that the passion the students will have for this program and their contributions will reach the Head of the University of Kufa campus and will expand to turn into an alliance between English departments from other colleges in Najaf as well as other provinces. I plan for this initiative to become a national one that unites Iraqi people under a common passion and becomes a place where they are allowed to set aside sectarian or provincial differences as well as the political conflicts of their country and act as a creative outlet for the thoughts and underlying feelings that course through us all.
Long term goals include further developing my knowledge by attaining a P.H.D degree by 2025 and leading a more intensive reform movement of the current educational system as it is being applied. With the P.H.D degree, I plan to rise as Head of the department of English to use the advanced teaching methods of the UK on the students of Najaf and to do this, I plan to hold workshops that show how a change in our teaching methods, a more stimulating approach to studying will be presented to students, encouraging them to let go of their traditional ways of memorizing a piece of text and instead assigning written assignments in which they must link their current studies to relevant topics of their society.
Thanks in Advance!
