Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC. Please feel free to address your first- and second-choice major selections (250 word limit).

Academia is a major connection point between people. It standardizes ideas so that an entire nation of people can relate; using common ideas as their vehicles. In my experience, school exposed me to thinking that I wouldn't have been aware of otherwise. I have participated in colloquiums offered by my school which allowed me to volunteer with Red Cross, learn about yoga and meet the Dutch Consul. I have spoken with people I had just met about Camus and Kafka, as well as current events which were discussed in my social sciences classes. What interests me most in academia are the art forms. Artists pursue knowledge and understanding in a single topic to create a piece. Whether the medium is dance, film, ceramics, drama, writing or anything else, the artist's goal is to present their inner conversation about an issue of interest so that the viewer understands. That is my goal when I create things.

In the center of business, culture and the beautiful city of Los Angeles, USC is my dream school. I will pursue my academic life here through studying business but also taking arts classes. Business is essentially about understanding other people. I think USC is the perfect place for me to put that to practice with its impressive academics and internship opportunities. Being a student at USC will help me grow and develop into the world-class communicator I want to become.

Your academic interests are not really clear in this statement. You need to be more specific by mentioning the classes related to your first and /or second course majors. The essay is asking to you show the academic line of study that you plan on utilizing during your time as a student at USC. Mention specific classes that you look forward to attending, making sure that it is connected to your current academic interests in order to show the basis or foundation of your interest in your course major. The response that you wrote would actually have been more effective if they had been incorporated into the mention of specific courses and classes, or programs that you will be looking forward to attending at USC. I realize that you only have 250 words to work with but that should not be a problem if you revise and edit the content of your essay in the proper manner. You can opt to delete the first paragraph of your current essay and instead write a new one based upon my suggestions. Keeping the second or final part of the essay intact in order to present a more relaxed ending to the discussion.

Your essay is pretty off topic, you don't even begin to answer the prompt until the last third of the essay. I'd suggest adding more about what you actually plan on doing at USC (classes, professors, fraternities, networking, etc.) while reducing the first half of your response to maybe one or two sentences. I understand that it's sometimes hard to respond to these kind of prompts without sounding artificial but barely answering the question at all is a far worse alternative.
