What Appeals To You Most About Columbia?
After several campus visits, an overnight vist, and an Engineering Invitational, I am inclined to believe that Columbia is the best university for me. During my overnight visit, I attended my roommates Art History class. From this experience, I gained a sense of how the professor's at Columbia go about educating their pupils. As I sat there, watching as the professor's screen continuously projected different works of art, I could'nt be more engaged. Not to mention how engaged the students were; they managed to develop an intense discussion on how differently they interpreted the various works of art. While at the Engineering Invitational, I had the opportunity to visit the Computer Science building. There, one of the professors spoke to me about the objectives of his Computer Science class. I was also able to learn about some of the projects that the students were working on. In one room I visited, the students told about an app that they made for the Ipod Touch/Iphone. The app had the ability to identify different types of trees if you used either device to take a picture of its leaves. Another room I visited introduced me to a new type of camera lense they were working on. The lense was advanced and when used to take a picture, it would show you every aspect of the object. For instance, they demonstrated how a picture of a dollar bill would come out if taken with their camera; the picture showed every feature of the dollar bill: every crease, and piece of thread. This couldn't be more awesome. As well as Columbia's excellent academics, what also appeals to me is its diversity and location.
