Driven by a desire to attain education which, while developing depth in the fundamentals, gives me a wide vista to explore and identify my particular calling within the innumerable options. This desire is a key reason I wish to pursue my undergraduate education at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
I am a student who learns classical dance for eight hours a week grabs her travel pack and visits IVF and stem cell centres during school breaks, writes commentaries on current global economy issues and loves to critically analyse literary works. I strongly feel that The LSA college of University of Michigan is the right place of education where my multifaceted personality will blossom.
Biology, Economics and Literature have always fascinated me. This diverse choice of subjects is unheard of in my country. The Literature, Science and Arts College project an interdisciplinary approach to academics that would allow me as a learner to explore different realms of education in a creative yet realistic manner. Right from LSA theme semester to the Life Science University Corridor, the LSA College provides me a sense of association with its aim and focus.
My dream is to establish several IVF centres and public stem cell banks. Here, I would not just require Biology but Economics as well to be efficient in management. The university programme of Economics seems very exciting to me as the curriculum that is built on fundamental concepts of data analysis along with micro and macroeconomics. This programme would enable me to understand applied economics in the best possible manner.
Being a classical dancer, I have developed a sense of literary sensitivity and critical appreciation to literature that draws my attention to the fantastic LSA department of English language and literature. The four endeavours that this department is dedicated to that includes surveying, analysing of varied range of texts, researching and promoting creativity would help me develop my critical thinking and thus equip me to understand cultures, histories and my fellow people.
The University of Michigan and its program appeals to me most because I believe it will provide me global perspectives through experiences; while allowing me to explore, it will keep me focused. The university is acknowledged across the globe as a learning space that welcomes diversity and students with high standards of integrity. I not only come from a diverse culture but also have diverse yet focused academic interests. The reputation of the University in developing holistic graduates, who are not just informed and knowledgeable, but also initiators and achievers is also a major draw. Strength of curriculum within each of my chosen areas with faculty and support infrastructure that are world class is also very appealing. The icing on the cake is the vibrant student body and thriving extracurricular environment which will allow me to participate, contribute and grow.
Since childhood I have learnt facing challenges. Be it the herculean task of leading 700 students as a Group captain or winning the school elections as a head girl in the school I shifted a year back, I have always faced challenges confidently. The University of Michigan is a new challenge that I want to face and learn from. I will add to the community; I come with determination and conviction.
