In my Muslim community, people say I am broad-minded because I respect views and belief that differ from mine. They say I am conscientious because I strive to go in the right path, having my self guided by my sense of right and wrong. They say I am creative because I bring new ideas to the table; not only do I make slight changes here and there, but I also help give a new outlook to the community. Attending Pace University with the qualities I posses will help me in further defining myself. With these qualities, I can bring more diversity and cultural understanding to Pace.
As soon as my academic endeavor begins at Pace, I am confident that my character will kick in; I will use my values, skills, and traits to help lead the student community in a new and diverse direction. I can use these characteristics not just for the Pace community, but also use them in my business profession. My long-term future goals include creating a clothing line, and also create/support charitable organizations.
In order to gain valuable experience for my career in the business profession, I have volunteered at the Islamic Sunday School "Jafaria" in Middletown, CT, by taking charge of a position in their office. At the beginning it was a roller coaster ride. I was new to the whole management aspect, and I didn't have basic knowledge of how the school runs. Nevertheless, I took every weekend as a challenge, learning from my mistakes, and trying to make the place run smoother by implementing certain rules, taking attendance, assigning classes, making appropriate arrangements for substitute teachers, and distributing snacks. With these actions I learned a lot about taking responsibility and managing it, time-management strategies, and demonstrating integrity to gain their confidence in me. Throughout my working term at the Sunday school, I successfully achieved and maintained the position of President of 'Youth of Jafaria'. I have worked hard to help the community build a good foundation in order for others to get the right perspective of what they should follow."Excellence starts with leaders of good and strong character who engage in the entire process of leadership".
Showing compassion to my leadership ability, I was offered the responsibility to take charge of guiding volunteers for a big conference. I took this offer, and put all my will power into it. Not only did I properly guide the volunteers, I was also able to get a large number of people to register for the conference, which in turn got me the opportunity to manage all the collected money. The organizers praised my strong character which shows drive, energy, determination, self-discipline, willpower, and courage due to which I was chosen for such responsibilities. What I have learned is that building excellence is being all you can be; to reach excellence you first have to be a leader of a good and sound character.
There is more to me than just being broad minded, conscientious, and creative. I have determination, and I am ambitious, imaginative, independent, and love to care. I'm more of a go-give person. I am very humble, and I am more caring about other people's feelings. I have the ability to remain quiet and open, simply to observe, and never to judge. I strongly believe that Pace University will benefit from a student who posses these ideal qualities, and I myself will become who I am meant to be by attending such a prestigious school that strengthens these qualities.
