As a child, whenever I watched an animation movie, the characters always left me in a state of wonder. They resonated with me on a level I didn't quite understand at that age, but it awoke an inclination towards art that I followed as I grew. I often tried creating characters of my own as a hobby and before I knew it, it became my passion. Sketching, Painting and coloring became something I could to lose myself in entirely.

On exploring this newfound passion of mine, I came across various aspects of art such as photography, sculpting and painting. The works of Pablo Picasso, Leonardo Da Vinci and Banksy stood out for me in particular. Their paintings connected with me in a way that I wanted to immerse myself into art. They made me realize how art has always been surreal and keeps evolving.

To me, art has always given a feeling of comfort and strength. It can express what words never can; a picture really does speak louder than words. Art is a window to a magnificent world of different perspectives expressed without words. All I can hope to accomplish one day is be able to do that for so many others in my own special way.

Now that I am old enough to choose a career, I have decided on a field that invoked my interest in art in the first place - Animation. Pursuing one's passion is not an easy ordeal, especially after having personally experienced the growing rate of competition in the field of art. But to follow my heart, I am willing to work with dedication and determination in order to hone my skills and knowledge. During summer, I did a 3 week online course of 3DS Max. This program got me hooked on animation even more. Being able to see my own creations come to life was an experience that I can't express.

Animation is a simulation of movement created by displaying a series of pictures, where illusion of life is created. It is this illusion of life that makes me love animation so much. With being able to create characters, give personality and convey stories, we stumble into a whole world of possibilities. I know my journey will be hard and long but I hope SCAD will be the university which will provide me with support, encouragement and skills to soar and achieve my dreams.

SCAD can help me unleash my passion and creativity and bring out the best in me. My admission to SCAD can allow me to foster the skills needed to excel in the Animation field. Your institution has the facilities to provide me with the exposure I need to achieve my dreams, soar to new heights and become an asset to the university. It would be a great opportunity for me to be given a chance to pursue my education in Animation at SCAD and eventually realize my dream of becoming an animator.

Pranav, your statement of purpose veers more into the realm of a personal statement. A statement of purpose should discuss more than just the development of your interest in the field of animation. It should tell the reviewer more than just your desire to create your foundation in the field. Your statement of purpose needs to tell the reviewer about your vision for your future.

This vision should include not only your plans for employment, but the kind of thinking that you have regarding your craft. Explain how you wish to use the foundation you will be receiving to develop a more cutting edge animation style. Let the reviewer know that you plan to push the envelop of your basic foundation in order to discover what other secrets the world of animation has hidden from normal view.

You need to discuss these sorts of topics in your statement of purpose in order to set yourself apart from the other applicants. All of you will be discussing how this will be the foundation for your future career. Therefore, you need to go a step further by developing a more compelling purpose for your enrollment. Maybe you want to create the next Pixar Animated Studio. Maybe you want to develop animation in a way that Disney Animation did for Frozen, only one or two steps better. Think of a big purpose, and then discuss how this will be the foundation for that higher dream :-)

@Vangiespen- on point as always!

What you have is good, I think, but I don't think it will help your application and project an image of you as a qualified candidate of the program.

Here are some additional things you can discuss:
Your purpose and objectives in undertaking this program. You kind of discuss this in the last paragraph but you can add more detail and greatly improve it.

Your special interests, plans, and goals for the future. What plans and goals set you apart from the average applicant?
Your strengths in the field.
Experiences you've had that have confirmed your interest in animation- whether personal, a job or volunteer experience, internships, etc...
