Ryerson University: Tell us in approximately 300 words how a specific work of journalism (not your own) had an impact on your desire to study journalism. It can be from newspapers, magazines, broadcast or online news sources.
Communication is power. In the digital world we live in, the ability to introduce different ideas, educate and inform the masses is remarkable. That this is done even in the face of danger is even more striking. Journalism has had an impact on all aspects of society. Information knowledge and the ability to reason are all due to the fact that communication has advanced. One reporter who has demonstrated a wealth of knowledge, an ability to communicate effectively and made an impact on my pursuit into Journalism is Peter Mansbridge.
During the 2015 Federal Elections, He displayed a sophisticated and educated ability to communicate and inform his audience on the future leader of the Canadian government, Justin Trudeau. Young people, like myself, who were new to Canadian affairs, got to witness the making of history. A few hours later, front and center, Peter Mansbridge sat strictly and announced the news: "We now have a confidence to tell you this right now, based on the early returns, that we are looking at...we can tell you that the next Prime Minister of Canada will be...Justin Trudeau, we are forecasting at this moment now, a liberal government."
Communication.
Never before have I ever been struck so deeply by mere words. I was transfixed and fully engulfed in every sentence he uttered. His coverage was clear and simple, but strong and powerful. His coverage at that particular moment, of the Canadian federal elections, became a strong influence in my future ambitions. I wanted to become just like him.
His dedication and ability to communicate have inspired me to pursue the study of Journalism so that I can enhance my communication skills and pursue further studies related to the field of Journalism and politics.
