Open to criticism :) Thanks.
Influence of family, community school, and dreams and aspirations influenced:
Booker T. Washington once said, "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome." My life fits this quote very well. In a short description, I am a Pakistani Muslim living in America. That description itself makes one wonder about all the different influences that have impacted my life. I have been alive for seventeen interesting years and I can gladly say that I continue to live a very interesting because of my surroundings and experiences.
I was born in Karachi, Pakistan in a household that revolved around love and discipline, and I couldn't be happier. My family is the most important thing in my life because they are the ones who made me who I am today. My family always taught me life lessons that I now realized have helped me a lot in life. My grandfather was in the army and he taught me many things about life. He was very hard-working and accomplished, but it wasn't long before hard times set on our family. After having both his legs amputated, he was still very independent and was never a burden on anyone. When he passed away a few years back, I was inspired to have the dedication and determination he had in his life. My parents have also contributed to my life in many ways. They are the ones who have brought me to the land of opportunity, just so I can have the freedom to pursue my dream in the medical field. My family has always been very determined in every task. My dad recently finished his surgical tech. course at the age of 47. He is a big inspiration to me and so is my mother who has gone through many obstacles such as anemia and nerve problems, but still works part-time since my dad is unemployed.. Their determination and encouragement keeps me determined.
Since I have lived in many places such as Pakistan, Dubai, Illinois, and California, I have many communities to thank for making me a person who has knowledge and experience of many different cultures, as well as acceptance and understanding of many different people. My life has had many bumps along the road, but somehow I got through them all. Living in Pakistan was a very tough time for me and my family because of all the corruption and poverty. Even though I was born in a well-off family, I left Pakistan in the state of having almost nothing. In Dubai, life didn't get much easier. My dad could not find a permanent job and soon became unemployed. We were forced to go back to Pakistan and live a harsh life for a couple of years. At that moment in life, I realized how important education was in life. I was inspired by how many people were begging for education in a world of poverty. Somehow, by the miracle of God, my family was approved to migrate to America. In America, I have had so many opportunities to become who I want and I am so thankful for that. Even though the schools in Dubai and Pakistan were different from those in America, I was too determined to let a little language or lifestyle difference get in the way of my pursuit. My family is living paycheck by paycheck right now, but I know that one day the hard work will pay off because my family believes in me.
I believe that I have learned so many skills in the schools that I am ready for the challenges that this college has to give me.
