I'm applying to KAIST this year and in need of advice. It's hard for me to write such short essays so I fear that my ideas are not developed. I've used up all the available space. 😔 It's the first of the five essays and I assume they place greater importance on it since the other four have even smaller word limit.

Topic and instructions:
Please describe your dream and the efforts you have made so far to achieve it and your future plan for it. (within 2000 characters/300words)
※ Please include your reason(s) for choosing KAIST in order to achieve your dream and the hardships that you expect to encounter in the process.

My essay:
Each generation of my family has expanded the boundaries of education: my father was the first to attend university, his father started our family's first business, and his father was the first to send his son to school. Their sacrifices taught me that education isn't just about acquiring knowledge - it's about creating opportunities for others. I'm determined to continue this legacy, not only for my family but for communities worldwide.

My passion for engineering took root in my school's robotics club. My first project - a touch-activated lion that roared unpredictably - showed me the thrill of building technology that truly connects with people. Now, I'm part of a team developing first Kyrgyz text-to-Braille converter, allowing visually impaired individuals to read printed text independently. In a country with limited resources for disabilities, this project feels urgent and deeply personal. My role involves designing the user interface and integrating software algorithms with Arduino-driven Braille cells created through 3D printing. This experience taught me how engineering can create meaningful change and solidified my desire to make technology accessible.

To advance my work, I'm drawn to KAIST's interdisciplinary research, particularly in AI-driven wearable devices and brain-machine interfaces. Programs like Undergraduate Research Participation will help me refine my ideas and collaborate with leading experts. I'm especially excited about Prof. Jung Kim's work in pHRI, which aligns with my goal of developing human-centric technologies.

I know I'll face rigorous academics and cultural adjustments, but I see these as avenues for growth. To prepare, I've started courses in engineering at a local university and progressed to Level 2 in Korean, ensuring better communication with collaborators. By immersing myself in KAIST's innovative environment, I aim to develop transformative technologies that uphold my family's tradition of progress and empower others to dream.
