"The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all. " ~Leo Rosten
For me, the purpose of schooling is not to make one more intelligent, but to give them the capability to make an impact. My first step after high school would be completing my undergraduate studies and then continuing on to medical school. As for my career, my dream is to complete my residency at Boston Children's Hospital. These steps are only the means by which I will truly fulfill my goals. My greatest hope is to begin an outreach program where medical treatment is need the most, in underdeveloped countries where access to medical training and car is limited .
The medical field as been a topic of interest for me for a long time. I became interested in health science while on my first mission trip. We visited an Indian reservation to provide cleaner and more permanent housing solutions. We worked on sight for upwards of eight hours a day, building a home for a family of eight who was currently living in a trailer that was missing a portion of the back side. The families there all shared one bathroom, more than twenty people shared an outhouse which lacked even the most basic amenities most of us are so privileged to have. Without plumbing, or soap, or sometimes even toilet paper, the sanitary conditions were not the best. After meeting these people, some of the friendliest people I had ever met, I realized that there are so many families without access to any care whatsoever. I am passionate about entering the medical field because I want to give every mother, father, and child, the medical care necessary to live a healthy life.
I would be an asset to health science program, because I am driven and committed to making an impact. The health science class has so much experience to offer, and I am so excited to get the chance to be a part of it. I believe I have all of the qualities necessary to succeed in the medical field. I have a good work ethic, a friendly disposition, and a will to succeed which I will put to good use as a member of the program. I am willing and able to learn and experience, first hand, the environment of the clinical world.
Embodying one of my best traits, my active participation in my school and my community, have driven me to become even more involved in everything I do. As an active member in multiple clubs and activities, I strive to remain an eager participant in all of my activities. I enjoy the stresses of a busy calendar because every event, and club meeting leads to an opportunity to help someone or contribute to a cause. I like the feeling of being a part of a greater purpose, which is why I am so active in school. Because of this, one of my best characteristics is my involvement in my school and my community. If accepted in to the Health Science program, I would be both an eager participant, and active member.
(Notes: I'm not finished with the last characteristic, but i just wanted to get some feedback on what I have so far.)
