Why is Lehigh a good match for you? What contributions will you make to the academic experience and to campus life?
Genuinely speaking, I am touched by the motto of Lehigh "Homo minister et interpres naturae" and the logo of this university: a heart poses on the open book under bright sunlight.
Lehigh is famous for its engineering; however, rather than being a simple "institute of technology", the university has reached great length in offering opportunities for students to improve themselves. Although I learn science in high school, I do enjoy searching for meaningful things to help me understand the world in my own way and thus I could realize myself, or some of my impulses deep inside.
I wish my optimism and happiness could bring Lehigh some fresh air in campus life. After several years of comprehensive self-studying, I am confident in my ability of associating different aspects of knowledge. I am also willing to share this perspective learning with my future classmates. As a passionate XXXX(my nationality) boy, I feel great honor to introduce my country and help my fellows learn about a real XXXXX.
If you founded your own college or university, what topic of study would you make mandatory for all students to study and why? What would be the values and priorities of your institution and why?
In my college, students are required to train their weaker hands in order to be ambidextrous.
Scientific researches indicate that ambidexterity benefits a man not just in body's balance, but also in the coordination of his nervous system. In other words, learning to utilize the weaker hand is conducive to one's physical and intellectual health. Such a practice may improve one's performance in academics, say, in the manipulation ability in conducting experiments. Weighing about the advantages brought by the training of the weaker hand, I shall definitely require all students to study.
Besides, this program will inform my students about their potential to perfect themselves. The weaker hand is what a freshman with short-comings to college. Certainly my students have a lot to learn. I believe, by their perseverance, their short-comings will one day change into one of their best advantage. Through the special training course I want to convince my students that they can make differences if they really desire to do so. However, no pain, no gain, they must pay efforts to reach the destination.
A well collaboration of both hands can strengthen one's confidence and the sense in cooperation. If a student can make notes with his right hand and graph with the left one, he will be satisfied with such efficiency. Also he will realize the importance of cooperation. In reality, there are numerous cases that require collaboration like the left hand and right hand. My education will best prepare such lesson for my students.
Tanks for helping me and any advices are welcomed.
