Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.
I arrived at Otterbein ready to work hard and succeed. I, like every freshman, was excited to begin my college life and move away from home. I was thrilled to gain some independence and live on my own. I wanted to experience bigger and better things. However, now that I'm here I cannot say that my expectations have been fulfilled. I have been disappointed with what Otterbein has offered me, academically and socially, especially because I travelled thousands of miles to go there (I am Tunisian). So that is why my reasons for transferring are mainly, but not exclusively, academic. In fact, I want to feel like home, to feel like I belong there and most of all that I can succeed there both academically and socially.
At Otterbein, I have developed a greater sense of myself and my abilities, both academic and social. The experience was not that bad. However, with all due introspection and now retrospection, I feel a change is necessary. Nevertheless, attending Otterbein made realize what kind of college experience I really want and what does really matter. So, I came to the conclusion that Otterbein isn't a good match for my interests, goals and future plans.
By transferring to a new school I hope to be able to feel the sense of belonging to the community, to work hard to succeed and get better professional career opportunities in the future. Furthermore, I want to feel proud to be part of the university I choose, feel proud to say that I graduated from that university.
My father studied in the United States and he always has encouraged me to go there as well. I took his word and I sacrificed a lot to come study to the United States and I want that after transferring I will be able to say to myself and to others that it was really worth the sacrifice.
