GKS 2025 SOP for mass media major. Pusan national university

"The media is the fourth estate of democracy and its role is to hold those in power accountable".Watching the news unfold about Jung Joon-young crime, a K-pop star who had secretly filmed and shared sex videos without consent, I felt a mix of emotions: shock, disgust, and anger. The fact that someone with such a large following and influence could commit such a heinous crime was appalling. But what struck me even more was the role of the media in bringing this crime to light. The relentless pursuit of truth by journalists and the media outlets that reported on the story led to Jung Joon-young's arrest and conviction.
Around the same time, another scandal broke out, involving Cho Kuk, a former minister of justice accused of corruption and hypocrisy. The media's scrutiny of his actions led to his resignation, sending a strong message that those in power would be held accountable for their actions. As I watched these events unfold, I realized the immense power of mass media in shaping public opinion and influencing societal values.
The media's coverage of these scandals not only brought attention to important issues like consent and corruption but also sparked a national conversation about the need for accountability and justice. It was fascinating to see how the media's reporting could mobilize public opinion and lead to tangible consequences. The way the media outlets worked tirelessly to uncover the truth, despite the obstacles and challenges they faced, was a testament to the importance of a free press in a democratic society.
I graduated as a distinguished high school student with a stellar academic record. I attended Federal government girls college, Ezzangbo, where I had consistently been ranked among the top 10% of my class. I have achieved outstanding results in my subjects, particularly in English, biology, and Economics, with a GPA of 3.9/4.0.

I have also been an active participant in various academic activities which includes the press and debate clubs. As a member of the press club, I wrote articles that highlighted social issues, promoting awareness and sparking meaningful discussions. My writings inspired my peers to take action, and together we organized events and campaigns that addressed these issues. I also had the opportunity to interview inspiring individuals who were making a difference in our community, sharing their stories and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

Through the debate club, I developed my public speaking skills, learning to articulate my thoughts and defend my opinions. I engaged in respectful discussions with my peers, listening to diverse perspectives and challenging my own biases. These debates fostered a culture of respectful dialogue, encouraging others to engage in open and honest discussions.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I have been actively involved in various extracurricular activities that have helped me develop valuable skills and build my professional network.
As I reflect on my experiences as an active member of the sport club and a proud winner of 2 silver medals in our school's yearly inter-house sport competition, I realize that these moments not only shaped my physical abilities but also instilled in me valuable skills that I aim to apply in the field of mass media.

These skills are transferable to the fast-paced world of mass media, where collaboration, creativity, and adaptability are crucial.

Moreover, sports taught me the value of perseverance, discipline, and hard work - qualities that I believe will serve me well in the competitive world of the media. I learned to set goals, work towards them, and overcome obstacles, essential skills for a media professional.

My experience in sports also fueled my passion for storytelling. I realized that every game, every match, and every victory has a story to tell.
My passion for media intensified and I continued to engage in different extra curricular activities. I significantly remember my experience as a volunteer at a local community center. This experience was a life-changing encounter that left an indelible mark on my heart. Working with underprivileged children and witnessing their struggles firsthand instilled in me a sense of purpose. I realized that education is the key to unlocking their potential and breaking the cycle of poverty. However, I also saw how limited resources and lack of awareness hindered their access to quality education. That's when I knew I had to use my skills to make a difference. I began using the power of the media to amplify their voices, sharing their stories and highlighting their needs. Through social media campaigns, local news outlets, and community events, I brought attention to their struggles and advocated for change. Slowly but surely, the government began to take notice, and aid started pouring in. Seeing the impact of my efforts was a testament to the power of the media in driving change. I am now more determined than ever to continue using my voice to empower marginalized communities and create a brighter future for those who need it most with the power of the media.

Considering that you are Nigerian and not Korean, it will seem implausible for you to be so focused on Korean entertainment and political information. These would not be covered as highly as you make it appear in your essay. You make it seem like your news networks covered these reports intricately in their reporting, almost as if Nigeria is Korea. What you should do is make it clear that you are the one who was interested in the news story and that you followed the news online or wherever. Pick the stronger of the 2 news stories to present in the essay so that your interest in communication studies will be stronger and not just entertainment based.

The essay itself is smooth flowing in presentation but not really strong in terms of academic consideration. There are not enough accolades to make the reviewer believe in your potential as a student. The information about why you chose the university feels forced. It is too generic in reference and lacks a personal touch in terms of reasons why you chose the university.
