Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (500 words maximum)

It seems pompous, I know :( any specific edits would be lovely!!

The Leaders and the Best

In 1898 Louis Elbel claimed in his famous fight song that the students at the University of Michigan were the "leaders and the best." This mantra has been a central theme for each college of the school. The Ross School of Business accepts only the best, only those who can claim that they are the leaders in their respective fields. When someone tells me he is a Ross student, my eyebrows rise and my eyes light up: I am visibly blown away. Of course, Ross students are accustomed to this reaction. I aspire more than anything to belong to be among those who count that recognition as their due.

To that end, I have sought to use my natural enthusiasm to become a leader. I've always been good at public speaking and reaching out to my community. I love the idea of reaching people, convincing people, and having people share my passion about an idea. I looked to combine those strengths with my intense interest in business. Naturally, I took business education classes and joined DECA. I lived for the competitions and conferences, and I embraced the opportunity to network with positive, goal-oriented peers. I was so passionate about the organization and its members that I became Michigan DECA's Vice President of Public Relations, communicating to over 7,100 membersïand I love it.

On a smaller scale, managing my school store, The Spartan Corner, has allowed me to utilize my business skills to promote, supervise, and merchandise an enterpriseïno matter how small. These newfound abilities brought my team success at University of Michigan Dearborn's Entrepreneurship Academy, which further cemented my passion for business. When my activism in the marketing classroom, DECA, and University of Michigan Dearborn's Entrepreneurship Academy earned me Stevenson High School's Business Leader of the Year award, I was flattered. Earning this award did not make me feel like I was "the best" student in the world (I earned some B's, you know), yet I did feel that I was recognized for my personal best, in a field that I am passionate about, which is my goal.

"Hail! Hail! To Michigan, The leaders and the best!" It is a powerful refrain. I would be honored to be known as a leader and the bestïI believe Ross can take me there. I believe that I have the potential to be one of "the leaders and the best." More to the point, I know The Ross School of Business can make me the best business professional I can be. Ross is excellence; Ross is leadership. I believe that I have the potential to join the Ross students in upholding such a status.

I advise you to put this as an opening!
