Okay, so this question has thrown me a curve ball. There are many reasons why. TOO many. I also don't want to sound generic and boring. Can anyone help me?
Hailing from the most southern tip of Texas and ten minutes away from the Mexican border, the Valley's, as it affectionately called (though it is a flat than my grandmother's feet), cultural diversity is less than zero. Growing up, I have always longed to experience a different environment, become absorb into another culture and Yale's location in New Haven, the cultural epicenter of Connecticut, will allow me experience that.
I like what you started with... Keep going! What major are you interested in and why? What extra-curricular activities? To keep it unique, just talk about how growing up in Texas made you who you are and why your passions and values match up to Yale.
I like the fact that you are keeping it short, but I have one question...have you ever visited the campus?
or talked with a student who goes there?
it would be interesting to repeat a converstaion you had with a student there and then say how it changed your mind totally about the type of people who go there.
I saw this in a book once. They also said not be generic, don't talk about the campus, or the academics etc..tell them something they dont know..literally!

I would suggest choosing another reason. Since I know the word limit, I'm aware you cannot really explain your reason in much detail. Therefore, it would be wise to choose a more compelling reason that particularly applies to Yale. Good luck :)

If you want to use diversity as your reason, talk about how New Haven is very close to two major diversity centers: Boston and New York, but be sure to also mention the diversity at Yale itself. This will make your essay much stronger. -AAO

Yale knows that makes them different, try not be generic and relate it with how exactly it will be fit for you and it's impact on you.
Yes, it is a cultural epicenter of connecticut, but the important part is that it is diverse in a way that draws people from all over the world becuase of its strong academics--it sounds like you are focusing on its location in New Haven.
So dont forget to add that in it somewhere! :)
