Prompt:"The UGA faculty has defined the qualities that the student body should demonstrate in the Admissions Philosophy Statement. After reviewing this, help us understand which of your qualities will add value to our community of scholars." (200-300 words)
Here is what the Philosophy statement says:
"As the state of Georgia's flagship institution of higher education, the University of Georgia recognizes in its mission "the University's integral and unique role in the conservation and enhancement of the state's and nation's intellectual, cultural, and environmental heritage."
To this end, the University seeks to admit undergraduate students from all parts of Georgia as well as other states and countries who have demonstrated the following:
-excellence in academic achievement, intellectual pursuits and creative endeavors;
-an understanding of and respect for intellectual, social and cultural differences;
-significant commitment to citizenship through public service, school activities, community involvement, leadership and/or family;
-evidence of integrity and personal maturity; and,
-the ability to benefit from and contribute to a culturally and intellectually diverse community of scholar-citizens.
-To serve an undergraduate student body of highly qualified, intellectually curious and actively involved students, the University is committed to provide excellence in its -teaching/learning environment, to promote high levels of student achievement, and to offer appropriate academic support services.
By identifying students with outstanding potential and fostering continued personal development in the classroom and the community, the University of Georgia expects that future leaders of the state, the region, the nation and the global community will emerge among its alumni."
What I wrote so far(I really want to make my essay strong.Thank for any advice given.)
Samantha Sara Badeau: 18 letters combined together to give this being known as "me" a name. Yet, countless numbers of letters describe who I am and what I do. Curious: 7 letters that represent my interest in what I see every day and the questions that form on the tip of my tongue. Risk-taker: 9 letters representing my stories of testing my limits in and outside of the classroom, well-aware of the possible consequences that may head towards my way for opening the Pandora's box(??).Talkative: 9 letters that cause rolling of one's eyes, but laughter at the same time for being a social butterfly- eager to learn how one lives their life different from my own. Petite: 6 letters that many say to me before they attempt to pick me up and twirl me around. After all, surprising things do come in small packages. Empathetic: 10 letters that reflect how easily I respond to fellow human being's emotions and how I try and walk a bit in someone else's shoe before I make judgements. Leader: 6 letters that lives within me when group assignments are given. I possess the innate need to lead the group to an "A" for the specific assignment. I strive to deliver directions and responsibilities that will provide a challenge and an invitation to think outside of the box.Perseverance: 12 letters that spotlight the obstacles thrown towards my way and narrate the end of one chapter and a beginning of another with a "Congratulations, Class of 2015." (Trying to figure out better way to conclude)Bulldog: A title that ,if UGA is the helm of curiosity, academic greatness, and diversity I believe it to be, I will soon be able to bestow upon myself.
