If you are applying to the Architecture, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Public Policy or Nursing Schools, tell us why you have chosen this field and what experiences (work, internships, etc.) have prepared you for it.

Medicine or engineering? After thinking actively, bringing all aspects of an appropriate major and career into my mind and doing some research about various majors' courses, their job opportunities, internships and research chances; I wisely planned to study biomedical engineering as pre medicine. Because this major especially at University of Virginia with its unique program which is a great combination of biology, engineering and medicine enabled me to make my decision with more confidence. After determining my major I started to gain some knowledge and experience in these fields in order to step even more consciously through my future and build the most precise bridge through golden opportunities.

In order to choose a major that is mixture of engineering, medicine and biology I should have logical reasons to convince myself. Initially, I realized that my brain does smart movements in mathematical and physical subjects, which exhibits my talents. At the same time, Biology and medicine are my favorite fields of study especially physiological and anatomical subjects. Furthermore, ethnology and vivisection are very interesting for me, both during laboratory sections and doing my researches for my projects. Additionally, My greatest goal in life since I was a little kid was achieving that honorable feeling of curing people as a professional surgeon. By being a surgeon I will have the opportunity to communicate with my patients, use my knowledge and skills to help them and be aware of new aspects of life. Doing surgeries is always my realistic dream. I believe the road is open for me to manage all of my interests and talents together.

In my opinion, having a degree in biomedical engineering makes a successful surgeon even more successful. Advantages of University of Virginia's unique program in biomedical engineering department for me includes: related knowledge and skills to my talents and interests; solid projects for research and, internship opportunities. According to UVA's biomedical engineering department I will learn: causes and implication of diseases, mammalian physiology and cellular molecular biology, human biology and laboratory, medical technology and a solid engineering education. Moreover, I can work on biomedical device design projects and have access to global health experiences and volunteer research programs. Additionally, Based on this department, I will be skilled in analyzing living biological system by using computational and analytical methods with product and experimental design. This decision enables me to have more knowledge about the devises that I will use everyday and all other aspects of my career so I will not need someone else as a biomedical engineer to assist me. Consequently, I will have an advantage in comparison between me and my collogues. So, it will provide me more outstanding opportunities.

In order to be familiar with the atmosphere that I will experience in the future and be as ready as possible to manage my responsibilities, I did some interesting activities. In high school we had an organization for biomedical engineering in which we designed medical devices at basic levels just to get some ideas about this major. A year after that I was employed as a volunteer in our high school's biology laboratory because I enjoy participating in and learning from experiments. Then I joined a biomedical engineer who woks in a hospital in my country and I understood her duties and responsibilities. I believe, It is vital to understand what kind of knowledge and experience you need in order to prepare yourself for your career. Then I went to a gynecologist and obstetrician's clinic for a couple of weeks to get some ideas about details of a doctor's life in her clinic and know what I need to know as a beginner. I had valuable chances to attend one hurt and one obstetrician surgery. I insisted on having these awesome experiences because I wanted to make sure about my interest in doing surgeries and I can stand all these crucial situations. Moreover, as a biomedical engineer and specialist I should learn these careers interactions because the way I Communicate with people and who I will interact with is really significant for me. I believe it is one the most essential aspects of my future career. In order to be an expert in communication I was tutoring math and physics at high school and I worked on some international projects (including, MUN in Scotland, ENO in Finland and Mock trial in The United States)that enabled me to know other people's behavioral manners, communicational patterns, Social practices and norms all around the world. In my opinion a professional's manners of interaction are as effective as her proficiency in her field.

To sum up, I have some information about the careers that I am planning to participate in and my discipline, which is enough for making my decision about my major. But still I need a large amount of experience, knowledge, research and talent to be ready when I graduate from medical school. Finally, what makes the college years even more beneficial and interesting is learning the skills you need by doing volunteer work, research and internship that I am planning to do.
