My future self is confidently thriving in New York city. I am innovating change through design. The city is allowing me the freedom to express my design solutions. As a fashion designer, I am organically integrating artistic design queries into my work which I am referencing from a wide discipline of work including sculpture and photography. Through fashion design and philanthropy, my future self is engaged with proactively creating genuine design solutions. Being connected to the global urban centre of fashion is essential to product creation.
In 2018, I graduated with a degree in Communication, Media, & Film from the University of Windsor. During my studies, I became very intrigued with editorial fashion photography during a course titled "The Art of Photo Blogging." The creative freedom and expression of colour through film invigorated my passion for fashion design. I went on to study fashion techniques in a two year college program. Now as I prepare to advance into a professional business oriented landscape, I believe that the New School is paramount in leading me to my desired goals.
I am ideally working in a creative director role at a fashion house. In collaborating with others that seek the advancement of responsible and creative ideas, The New School is a direct avenue to such an authentic and transformative venture. I am affecting change by exploring the relationship between the identity of a woman and its relation with fashion design principles. The female identity is at the forefront of my research. The question I am addressing is "How do women feel comfortable expressing themselves through their choice of garment?"
Succeeding the completion of the AAS in Fashion Design program at Parsons, I am expanding through the launch of seasonal collections for my brand. The New School fits perfectly into this journey of self exploration as a result of excellent mentorship from the faculty and the emphasis on project-based learning environments offered exclusively by Parsons' rich learning environment. With the assistance of the cutting-edge resources and highly knowledgeable faculty members, The New School is a stepping stone to an increased exploration and conversation between the core philosophy of my brand and the community at large. The AAS Fashion Design program at Parsons is particularly suited to my goals as a Designer and Artist as it contributes to developing an awareness of fashion systems, products, and explorations of a variety of research methods including archives, and analyzing cultural issues.
The method through which I am affecting change is by developing practices that offer a unique approach to designing solutions for the fashion industry. I am constructing a new sustainable paradigm to ease harmful degeneration of the environment. My brand ethos stems from the need to make system-level changes in production and policies to embrace resource sustainability. The environment shapes solutions as I translate ideas from the immaterial world into functional objects of clothing. The exemplary values enriched by Parsons The New School align with my own belief system of contributing to the shift of the global economy, and cultural issues that society faces. It is an integral part of my design process to embrace humanity and culture at the forefront of my design studies.
It is crucial that my designs are effective at communicating the processes that encourage people to engage in design while thinking critically about the issues faced by modern cultural women. The main purpose is incorporating different experiences and aiming to develop a design model embedded in taking real world action towards these principles. The design approach I am partaking in is embedded in minimalism. In utilizing the concept that "less is more," my work is characterized by relieving the need to consume more than we actually need. In order to confidently further the New School's values, I believe it is vital to proactively integrate the industry with ethical practices. I am taking part in a process that is sustainable and ethical for all those involved.
